As the night gets started, the most important issue of the night is very quickly solved.
Blake comes in looking rejuvenated and starts her night with a dance with Yang before being handed off to Sun.
With that being out of the way, Yang and Weiss abandon me and Ruby, who's using me as a balance beam much less now. Ruby and I look at each other and shrug.
"Sooo. What now?" Ruby asks.
I look out at the dance floor and feel my body grow more and more stressed out. I can handle the usual crowds now. But there's so many people here. All in this confined area. It's making me uneasy.
I turn back to Ruby and give her a weak smile, "I'm starting to think this isn't quite for me. There's a lot of people..."
As I finish that statement, I feel someone approach from behind me. I turn to see Ozpin stand next to me, looking at both me and Ruby, "Not enjoying yourselves?" He asks in his usual stoic wise hum.
Ruby speaks up first, "No! It's just... I'm... We're not exactly fancy Dancy types."
"And I'm not exactly the biggest fan of large gatherings," I follow up.
Ozpin chuckles, "You two can't spend your entire life in the battlefield. Though you may want to."
I shrug, "Seems to be the message of the week."
Ozpin hums, and looks down at us both, "It's not everyday that friends can gather like this, time has a way of adding tension to our bonds. But it's nights like these that make them stronger! Nights like these are ones you never forget. So go have fun, whether that be in the corner by the punch or up on the balcony, spend time with your friends tonight. Both of you."
As he finishes he simply walks off to go join Goodwitch at the other side of the room. I find myself smiling a bit at his advice, and notice Ruby does too, after getting a bit distracted.
The night carries on and Ruby and I spend most of the time with each other. Talking to our friends and each other about how schools been. The chaos. The excitement. All of it! Though, after a while, I see Glynda go join Ironwood for a dance. Ozpin then stands with a broad smile watching her go, then meets my gaze almost immediately.
I don't know why, or how, but I almost immediately felt the urge to go and talk to him. I could almost sense he had something important to say. After a quick(ish) journey across the building, I find myself approaching Ozpin. As I approach I clear my throat, unsure of what to say.
He shoots me a small smirk before turning away, walking toward the stairs, motioning for me to follow, "Come, let's chat."
I feel the tension grow ever so slightly, but listen to his order and follow him up the stairs and onto the balcony. He walks toward the railing and stands with his hands behind his back very official looking. I join him, and sit against the railing while looking back towards the doors, "Why'd you wanna talk?" I ask. Unable to entirely hide my excitement and nervousness in my tone.
He hums, "I'm of the belief that you may already know, Mr. L/n."
"In truth, I really don't. But I can assume that it's to do with my semblance, considering that's usually what we meet about."
His gaze never leaves the campus, and he lets his eyes sweep over the buildings and structures of the school. There's a certain twinkle in his eyes. One that I can't quite understand.
"Good assumption, but no. This is about the Vytal festival," he explains. His tone never wavering from its confidence.
I look away from him after a moment and feel my hair raise up, chills running down my back. One of my ears twitch, and I find a way to speak through my nerves, "What about it? Am I allowed to compete?"
