(Background: Karan and Monami have been married for a little over 2 years now. Karan is the academy head and Monami heads the training for the civilian program)

Shergill house
As the dawn broke on a misty morning, the alarm rang and woke up the handsome commando. Karan was always an early riser, as he preferred starting his workout even before sunrise and be ready to take on the day and the world.

As he tried to move from the bed, he realised the human sleeping next to him, had her arms tightly wound around him and was visibly irritated in her sleep with the sound of the alarm. He quickly turned off the alarm and looked at his beautiful, right now a little grumpy, wife. He gave a peck on her forehead.

Karan (sweetly) - Rani Saheba, good morning! do you want to wake up now and join me for workout..? Ya abhi aur sona hai?

Monami opened her eyes and looked at her husband. She wished him good morning meekly. Karan observed that she looked really pale and tired.

Karan - Kya hua monami? Not feeling well?
Monami - Pata nahi Karan. Ajeeb sa lag raha hai. Shayad tiredness hai, thoda body pain hai.

Karan quickly kept his palm on her forehead to ensure she wasn't running a temperature.

Monami - don't worry Karan. Feverish nahi hai. I'm fine, thodi der aur rest kar leti hu. I will be better. Tum jao, don't get late.
Karan - main bahar hi hu, kuch bhi lage toh bula lena, theek hai?

Monami covered her face with the quilt and said from inside - Yes sir, ab sone do !
----
Karan finished his morning workout, got ready, wore his uniform and came back to the room to find Monami already awake. She was sitting with her hand on her tummy and was clearly in discomfort.
Karan worriedly asked her about how she's feeling.

Monami - Karan, daro mat. Bas pet dard ho raha hai. I think kal raat jo Chinese food khaaya na, usse indigestion aur acidity ho gayi hai.

Karan - tum na!!! Bas manmaani karni hai. Kitni baar bola hai yaar mat khaaya karo ye sab. Tum khud doctor ho, commando ho, lekin duniya bhar ka junk khaana hai.

Monami (whining like a kid) - Karan!! Ek toh pet dard ho raha hai, upar se subah subah daant rahe ho. Aur waise bhi, sirf weekly once khaati hu junk food. Aur workout bhi double karti hu uss din. (In a low voice) aur ab dekho, shayad usi extra workout ki wajah se hi tiredness bhi ho gayi.

Karan - Accha accha, ab irritate mat ho. Ye batao dawai kaunsi lau? Do you want antacids?

Monami (smilingly)- Nahi Karan, I have medicines. Don't worry. Abhi le lungi. I'll be fine. Kuch serious nahi hai. Mild discomfort hi hai.

Karan- Ek kaam karo, aaj off le lo and take rest. Meri ek important conf-call hai Batra sir ke saath 8baje, with all other academy heads. Nahi toh main ruk jaata. I'll finish the meeting and come back?

Monami - Nahi Karan, bilkul nahi. Tum jao, I'll be totally fine. Tum mat aana. Infact, main khud thodi der mein academy aa jaungi. Morning drills ke liye shayad late ho jaun, I'll tell Koel to handle. But I'll come. Itne se ke liye main off nahi lene waali !

Karan: Monami zidd mat karo. Accha suno, agar ekdum theek feel karo, toh hi aana. Warna take an off. I want my best commando in her best condition, no compromise on that. Got it?

Monami (in fake seriousness) : Yes sir!!

Karan smiled, gave her a warm hug and quickly left for the academy. Monami dropped a message to Koel and slept off.
----

Monami woke up an hour later, she was still feeling a bit weird. She took her medicines, and got ready quickly to go to the academy. She came out of her room for breakfast. She was alone at home as Barkha had gone to drop Baby at school. Monami half-heartedly took some Upma in her plate, and just ate a couple of spoons. Just then, she felt pukish and ran to the washroom.

When she came out, her doctor mode got activated. She was trying to think through and understand why's feeling so sick. She has eaten more Chinese food in the past, what's different now. And boom! She took her phone, opened the app and checked the dates. She mentally kept calling herself a dumbo on how she, being a doctor, could ignore the obvious symptoms.

She hurriedly locked the house, rushed to a nearby pharmacy and came back home and took the test. Until now, Monami was running in an auto-pilot mode. She hadn't given a thought to anything, she didn't know how she's feeling. Once the timer was up, she closed her eyes, did a quick prayer, and opened them to look at the test result.

Positive!

Monami screamed in happiness. Her eyes welled up, she has never felt so emotional yet so elated before. She started jumping with joy and instantly realised she's not supposed to and stopped.

She rushed towards her phone to break the news to her Khadoos. Karan was busy in the meeting and missed her call. Monami realised that this is way too big news for her to share over phone, this has to be done in person. She really wanted to see how her husband would react. She composed herself, tidied up and drove to the academy.

Throughout the drive, she kept thinking of ways to share this news with Karan. She imagined his reaction and blushed a bit too. While waiting at a signal, she checked her phone and saw Karan had still not responded to her call. He must be busy, she thought. But he does have a very busy schedule these days and so does she. How will they manage? Is he even ready? What if he is not? What if he doesn't get happy listening to the news..

Monami's thoughts were broken by the honking of cars, as the signal had now turned green. She reached the academy, cleared her head from all the negative thoughts. She reminded herself that Karan is very mature and whatever happens, he'll always support her. She got down from the car and started sprinting towards his cabin.
