I was tingling with excitement the rest of the day. Because miners were allowed to take home what they found in chests, my father and I were proud owners of "The Magnificent Blade of Herobrine."

Or at least, I was. From the second I pulled it out of that chest, he had a nervous look on his face, like I'd done something wrong.

I wasn't sure who "Herobrine" was, but all I knew was that he had an awesome sword.

Late in the evening, as the sun was setting I was walking into my room. As I placed the Blade of Herobrine in the chest by my bed, I did't notice anything different. In fact, it took me a few minutes to find out that it was missing.

That strange glowing stick was gone.

"What?" I yelled to no one. My eyes burned into the empty desk as if it would suddenly appear.

I didn't know why, but I had to find that stick. For whatever reason, it was important.

Fear coursed through me as I burst outside, the red sun sinking above me. If I squinted my eyes I could see a dark figure dashing away from my house, the glowing stick in hand.

"Hey!" I yelled. My legs knew that I had to run. Sprinting harder than I ever had before, I started to make ground on the thief. My little square feet pounded the ground below me.

I wasn't sure where I was going, only that I needed to get to that thief and get back what I had discovered.

The space in between us began to get smaller and smaller until I leaped into the figure, knocking them to the ground.

I looked down and saw that it was my father.

. . .

"What are you doing?" I asked. Why was my father stealing that stick? How did he even know it existed?

With a cruel grin, one that I didn't even know could be allowed on the face of my dad, he pushed me off of him and jumped up, dashing away.

I didn't try to chase him because I didn't know what to do.

My mind was floating away from my body. My father and I had done everything together. He was like my best friend. And now he had run away from me and stolen what I had discovered.

My sullen body dragged me home.

For the next day, I sat inside. My sister and my mother never came to join me. I felt like them dissapearing was linked to my father running away with the strange stick.

So after sulking for a day, I knew what I had to do. I had to research.
