Chapter 43

The next day all I got to do was train, like Ben said. He, Preston and I spent most of our time in the training room.

Jane, Lora, Grace, and Ride put new information in the special Ender chests I had designed that morning.

As I was sword sparring with Preston, something caught my eye. Distracted, I peered at it, giving Preston a chance to swipe his sword at my legs, knocking me down.

"Oh!" Preston yelped. "Are you okay, dude?"

"Yeah," I grunted, standing up.

"Good job, Preston," Ben said from the sidelines. "Gregor's one of the best swordsman I've ever seen." He looked at me. "What were you looking at?"

"I saw something shiny."

Preston snorted.

"Seriously," I told him and Ben, who began to laugh.

I lead them to what I had seen, a few blocks away from where we practiced sword play. Floating above the ground was a sword. It was black, but glowing, its shine reflecting onto the dummies next to it. Hesitant, I picked it up. It felt light. I hated it. No strength. Just horrible, deceitful attack.

"Is that gamma metal?" Ben gasped.

"In a sword? Why is it here?" Preston asked.

I placed it in my inventory.

"Be careful, Gregor," Ben warned.

"I will. I'm just going to take it to the others so they can put it in their files." I left the training room and made my way to Jane's office.

I opened the door and gasped so loud I was sure that Preston and Ben could hear it from downstairs.

Lora and Grace were lying on the ground, knocked unconscious. Jane was nowhere in sight and Ridge was at sword point against the wall, about to be stabbed by a dark figure, black as night.
