𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐄𝐓 𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐀 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 was how hollow the ocean looked. Nothing about the dull sky staring down at the water or splashes of the deep ocean water made her feel any sort of peace—a reasonable explanation being the sea becomes easily boring when all that is left in the world is misery.

"Seeing you like this is scaring me, Scarlet." A silky voice of Jade Cristela called, placing a comforting hand on her sister's shoulder.

"This is scary," Scarlet voiced, eyes meeting her older sister's sorrowful ones. "How did you get through it?"

"What did I tell you last year?" Jade asks, taking a seat behind the younger girl, "I said I have a feeling they wouldn't pick you, I was right the last five years."

Scarlet felt Jade's soft hands reaching out for her to bring her into an embrace.

The two jolted away with the stressing horn sounding, creating shivers under the two girls' bodies. "I'll be right behind you, gorgeous." Jade placed a small kiss on the temple of her sister's head.

It was the only day Scarlet truly cared about how she looked and presented herself. She found it necessary—looking presentable on her way to hell (as ridiculous as it sounded). The dress they were provided with was ugly, that's the only way to describe it. It was ugly.

Nonetheless, the two sisters started to make their way to the gathering, Jade silently praying for her sister to be spared for the year.

"Welcome, welcome!" A shrieking voice called at the microphone, creating a disturbing echoing effect. The familiar voice delivered the familiar speech of how the Capitol saved everyone. Scarlet rolled her eyes at the woman on stage dressed ridiculously in a long coat and too much pink for everyone's eyes. "May the odds be ever in your favor."

Anfisa Starvok cleared her throat for her prepped speech. "Now it's time for our lucky boy and girl to be picked to represent District 4 in the festive 71st Hunger Games, how exciting!" She shrilled outwards but nobody responded with similar energy for her sake, she awkwardly coughed once again, "As usual, ladies first!" She shuffled towards the large glass orb containing all the names of the girls.

Scarlet grimaced, subconsciously chewing her bottom lip and nails digging into the palm of her hand. The escort had luscious blonde hair and thick, dark brows that stood out against her pale skin. She was really pretty, Scarlet acknowledged. The word going around was that Anfisa was quite supportive when it came to tributes' well-being. Of course, all that bullshit does not matter, she's from the Capitol. She will always be a Capitol citizen.
