"Careful," Jade softly muttered as she gently passed her son to Scarlet, and Will guided the girl's hands as she held the baby.
"He's so beautiful," an amazed Scarlet smiled softly, "'looks just like you." She smiled at her sister who grew teary-eyed instantly. After a moment of rocking the little boy back and forth in her arms, and making cute faces at him to gain the perfect smile, Scarlet laughed; she was practically awestruck to be able to make a baby smile.
When she looked up at Jade to share a victorious grin, she saw her older sister giving Will a wry look. Scarlet looked between the two, confusion lingering in her mind.
"What is going on?"
Jade pursed her lips and kept her eyes trained on her husband. "Go on, then, it was your idea!"
Will awkwardly coughed, and then smiled down at Scarlet who sat on the hospital bed, hands looped around the little boy.
"Do you want to know what we named him?" Will arched a brow, a tiny smile on his face.
"Of course," Scarlet chuckled. "I can't believe that left my mind, what's his name?"
"We named him Chris." Will grinned lightly, anticipating to see her reaction.
Scarlet's heart palpated at the bittersweet notion, and a sobbed whimper was forcing its way out. Cornelius Snow could have wiped out all the tributes' legacies to the best of his abilities but their lives lived in the District's memories. From the breeze to the waves of the ocean in District 4, nobody ever escapes the haunting grip the universe has on you the moment you take a life. Snow had taken them countless times without mercy and he would pay for it. That haunting grip would flood him with nightmares in the form of Katniss Everdeen until the moment he takes his last breath.
For now, instead of the wider revolutionary acts, Scarlet focused on baby Chris who cooed in her arms and waved his hand around slowly. Tears brimmed on her waterline, and she exhaled in pure happiness.
"Really?" She sobbed lightly, eyes flickering between the married couple.
"Absolutely," Jade squeezed the younger girl's hand three times in a notion to say 'I love you', and gave her a soft, assuring smile. "A day does not pass by that I don't think about what that sweet boy had done for you."
