𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐒 𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐒𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐄𝐓 𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐈𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆. It was tough. Really tough. The two managed to spend an entire day just hiding, and at that moment, it started to get harder and harder. Especially without water and food. Chris and she agreed on to leave in search of food when it was nearly midday. It was really hot. She felt as though flames coated the air, realistically, her body stung from the fumes.

However, beneath all the unjustness, a spark of hope rose in her chest. She thought maybe she could win this. Mist surrounded the two, and she felt nervous about what it was hiding, after all, the hot mist was still a mystery to her. Does that even exist? She didn't know what the game makers were thinking.

Out of the fog, she saw a silver parachute with a box floating toward her. She stood on her heels to catch it and the two opened it. There was a bottle of water and she shoved it into Chris' hand, the boy quickly devouring it. Underneath it, there were five small knives, glistening under the heavy sunlight. It put a smirk on her lips. She opened the note attached to it.

"KEEP MOVING, YOU TWO! ━ LOVE, CHIARA."

Chris caught her attention by nudging her, asking her to sip the water and her throat felt a sense of relief, her cracked lips now moisturised slightly. She picked up the knives, putting one of them in her pocket, and one in the tight bun in her hair. Chris took two. The last one stayed in her hands, she twirled it as they walked with more energy.

All of a sudden, a cannon fired and it made both of them jump. And another. Chris held onto Scarlet's hand in fear, the girl snapped her head around the expanse of the area with caution.

She shuddered at the thought of coming across the careers━it was likely the killing was carried out of them. They continued walking, and everything suddenly seemed way more threatening with every shadow. Every stick. Every wave of air.

Then she heard it, a snap of twigs. "Get behind." She pushed Chris behind her, raising the knife in her hand. The twig sounded again behind them and the two turned sharply, glaring in search of identification.

A cry sounded and she jerked her head to the right. "Chris, run!" She pushed the boy away into the woods, just when something came from the bushes, lunging toward her. Scarlet was too late to step aside as the weight of the girl from eight fell on her. She screamed, looking up, she thought the girl didn't even look human, she had honey-blonde hair, but her face was covered in mud and blood, eyes were crazed.

There was a twig in the girl's hands and she was ready to sink it into Scarlet's neck. The brunette let out a sharp scream, defending herself as she held onto the same piece of twig, trying to push it away.

She successfully threw the piece away and found herself maneuvering her hand with the knife. Much to her surprise, without any weapons left in the stranger girl's possession, she leaned forward and sank her teeth into Scarlet's shoulder, earning an ear-piercing scream as she felt sharp teeth tearing her pale skin.

Managing to get a good grip on her knife, she sliced her neck, straight. The girl choked, blood spurting out of her mouth as a lot of it fell on Scarlet's cheeks, her face now covered in thick red.

The cannon fired and the dead girl rolled off Scarlet's body. Scarlet examined the animalistic girl and then glanced at her own hands, covered in a whole load of blood. The unfortunate girl was completely crazed, as though there was nothing human left in her. Only animal. Shell of a person.

But she knew better than to hate the girl who had tried to kill her, after all, this is what the games were about. They were forced to become murderers, that was the only thing President Snow was good at━snatching away children's innocence. The girl probably just wanted to go back to a family that was waiting for her, just the way Scarlet was.

The brunette sat down and picked up a small number of daisies that surrounded them, placing it on the girl's chest as her lips wobbled at the gore image before her. She kept muttering sorries, as though they would bring her back to life.

"Scarlet? SCARLET!" Chris's voice sounded and Scarlet immediately shushed him upon his appearance.

Tears streamed down his face, "I thought it was you, I thought you died!" He cried and Scarlet held his hands softly. he looked at her bloodied palms and the girl expected him to flinch away, but he didn't, he started soothing her shaky hands, "Are you okay?"

"Never been better." She softly and sarcastically assured, getting pulled up from the ground by the boy. The sun started to set in, the humid air disappearing for good as the two started to step towards the pool of salty water for refreshment. Chris' hair was filled with sharp twigs and leaves and Scarlet... well, she was literally covered in blood━living up to the ridiculous name the Capitol had chosen for her, the girl in fucking red.

It didn't take the two long to get themselves washed, and they know they would have to seek shelter before all the light was out. All of a sudden, the cannon sounded again and the two flinched.

"Assuming that wasn't one of the careers, that just leaves them and us," Chris said, keeping an account of the death count. "Does it hurt?" He pointed at her open wound, flesh visible even without sunlight.

"Only a bit," She lied, smiling at him as she continued to take out pieces of wood from his locks. A dull throb pulsated down her arms, burrowing deeply into the crevices surrounding her protruding collarbones. The pain was intense, saturated in one place.
