It has been an extremely uneventful break for Luke. He's done nothing other than sit in his room, occasionally getting high, and having his eyes burn from the numerous hours he's spent playing FIFA.
Except today, he's going out. Calum said that they're driving down to the town over for the beach and pier. The sudden piece of information, or plan, has been newly revealed giving the blond a haste ten-minutes to get himself together.
Nevertheless, Calum is waiting outside his house and Luke's running out shoving his feet into his worn-down converse with his red flannel inside out. He approaches the car and slips into the passenger's seat out of breath.
"Sorry about the short notice mate," Calum chuckles, "I only got word about it today." He's avoiding telling the blond that they're going to be meeting up with Aria and the group, but what's a little white lie?
He's felt like he's been neglecting Luke a bit, so, why not invite his best friend out? Calum is sure that they'll understand. It'll be a cute surprise! Besides Aria and Sade almost halfway there, Jonah and Michael left around ten-minutes ago, leaving him and Luke to show up fashionably late.
"Nah, it's cool." Luke says, "Wait... who are we meeting?"
"The girls, and some of the guys." Calum vaguely responds, hoping he can get onto the highway before revealing the truth. Luke's not going to jump out of a car on the highway! And it'll be too late to turn around, a perfect trap. "It'll be cool."
"A'ight, okay then, let's go." Luke shrugs, buckling in his seat belt.
"There he is!" Calum cheers, he reaches for his phone, picking a playlist to set the mood as well as typing in the address into maps so he knows where to go. The boy clicks on the display of the car, having the map take up the screen while some teen boy rap song plays in the background.
Calum drives away from Luke's house, his head nodding along to the music as his fingers drum against the steering wheel. Luke has never seen himself as a big listener of the genre, though, after spending the last three – almost four years – with Calum, he's come to appreciate it.
Not to mention, going to parties, it's a rule to know all the staples because you're not going to find a proper high school party that plays pop punk... and come on, what high school boy doesn't like J. Cole?
Well, despite not knowing what they're going to do, or who they're meeting up with exactly. Luke is still grateful to get out of the house, and Calum knows how to make a solid playlist.
On the drive, the two boys are laughing and singing along to the music that has been turned up to its maximum volume. "You know what!" Luke laughs, bringing his hands up to his chest to recreate the lyrics, "I like the playettes."
"Alright, sing it Luke!" Calum cheers on, ignoring the automated voice telling him to take the next turn towards the highway. They've got a solid hour ahead of them, and now that he's turning onto the highway, he can finally divulge the information of who they're meeting.
Luke is genuinely a good guy. He's not some brooding dude that he's painted out to be, his notoriety is not dependent on Aria, he's his own person. He enjoys singing in the car, using his hands for dramatic effect. He and Calum are friends for a reason, and that's because they're similar.
Sure, people at school think he's boring and has no personality, but he's actually really sweet. It would be nice for the real him to be shown from time to time.
Once Calum enters the highway, he glances at the blond rapping along to the nineties rap song. "Hey Luke," he says, turning the music down, "you know how we're meeting people right?"
