ZANE

I GOT my sister a teddy bear, similar to the one that Callie had. I know she's fourteen, not seven but who doesn't love a teddy bear?

I spend the day with my sister, watching the cringe teen drama show that she loves and I bring her snacks throughout the day that she eats almost without thinking.

My sister has been trying so hard lately and I'm so proud of her. I know that it's not easy but she never lets anything knock her back, because it's all part of recovery. If she struggles one day, it does not mean that it affects any of the progress that she's made along the way.

Mikey came over about half an hour ago and we're gonna go on a run together.

"So." He says as we start running.

"What?" I look over at him.

"How's the face after our favourite nurse patched it up?"

"It's fine."

"She looks a lot happier doesn't she."

"I don't really know how she looked before." I shrug and Mikey gets frustrated.

"You're giving me nothing here. Nothing." He complains and I frown.

"There's nothing to say."

"Oh yeah sure, as if I'd belive that. You're letting the woman live in your home. That's not nothing."

"She needed a place to stay. What was I supposed to do, leave her out on the streets or let her go back to a man that hits her?"

"You hate people breathing the same air as you and you barely tolerate me. So forgive me if I'm not taking this lightly." Mikey points out and I roll my eyes.

"I'm a new man."

"Bullshit."

"I don't know what to tell you."

"You're impossible, I give up."

"Good."

I get why Mikey's questioning my actions but I can't give him a real answer because I don't know why and it's driving me crazy.

I'm letting someone who's basically a stranger stay at my place when I'm not there, for free. I guess it's just instinct to help someone who needs it, especially in her situation. Anyone would've done the same, the only thing I'm questioning is if I'd do the same for anyone.

And if not, why her?

After our run, I leave Mikey downstairs entertaining Amelia while I shower and change into some sweats. My mum made us a proper Sunday dinner for food and Mikey fucking loves it. He comes over every Sunday just to have it.

"So, any girls?" My mum asks.

"No." I say just as Mikey says "Yes."

"He's lying." I cover.
