I was standing outside of S.H.I.E.L.D. I needed to  take deep breaths to prepare for the conversation I was about to have.

Was I just about to walk to S.H.I.E.L.D. hoping the Nick Fury would be there? Yes. Yes I was. Did I have any guarantee it would work? Absolutely not.

You see, from where I stood, I needed to talk to Nick Fury. If anyone was going to help me take down HYDRA, it would be him.

Before I could talk myself out of it, I took a deep breath and walked inside the building.

To my surprise, it was empty. Silent. All I could hear was the receptionist's fingertips touching the keyboard of her computer.

Since she was the only person present, I decided to make my way towards her.

"Excuse me?" I called as I approached her.

She looked up at me, as if she expected me to continue talking.

"I need to speak to Nick Fury. Is he in?" I asked her.

"Name?" She asked unfazed.

"Marianne Mendes." I told her.

She looked at me in realisation.

"Oh, Ms. Mendes." She said with a smile. "Mr. Fury is expecting you on the 17th floor." She said as she pointed at the elevator on her right.

"Uh, thank you?" I said as I walked unsure towards the elevator.

Nick Fury was expecting me? How did he know I was coming? I had so many questions.

Once i got out of the elevator, there was one door in front of me. I opened it, and saw a gigantic, but practically empty office. It was filled with windows, so we could take a good look at our capital; a big desk full of paperwork; a chair on each side of the desk; a few shelves; and in the middle of the room there was a man, who I assumed to be Nick Fury, facing the view while his back was faced to me.

"I'm glad you're finally here, Ms. Mendes. I have been waiting for you." He said before turning around.

When I read his files, never would I have imaged him as a black man wearing an eyepatch. Don't ask me what I expected because to be honest, I have no clue either.

"You have been waiting for me?" I asked confused as I took him turning around as an invitation to walk closer to him.

"Well, yes. Do you honestly think I would have someone ask around for S.H.I.E.L.D. and not know about it?" He asked me.

"You know Dave?" I asked him with furrowed eyebrows.

Dave was the PI I hired to tell me everything I needed about S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Who do you think led him towards you?" He asked me as if it was obvious. "Better yet, why do you think it was that easy for you to find out about us?"

"I don't know, you tell me. I'll just add that to the list of questions I have unanswered." I told him.

"Because I wanted you to." He stated.

Clearly he knew I was coming, and he planned it. How and why I didn't know but I figured he was about to tell me.

"Why?" I asked as I crossed my arms, intrigued by the man in front of me.

"Why don't you take a seat, Ms. Mendes?" He said pointing at the chairs. "I believe we have a big conversation in front of us."
