It had now been about a week since Siberia. None of us had heard from Tony since. I couldn't help but recall my conversation with Steve on the plane.
Bucky was sleeping in the back as Steve and I sat awake in an uncomfortable silence.
"I didn't want you to have to lie to him." Steve said out of nowhere.
"What?" I asked confused as I looked at him.
"I didn't tell you because then you would have to lie to Tony... I didn't want that for you." He said melancholically.
"Steve..." I sighed. "I wouldn't have lied to him."
Steve looked at me wide eyed.
"If you would've told me, I would've explained this to him calmly. Eventually, he would understand. Sure, he'd still want to kill Bucky, but not like it was today. Today was an extreme because you didn't trust us. Your team... your friends." I could tell Steve was getting affected by my words. "Everything that happened today could have been avoided, and three of us could've caught Zemo."
"I know..." He said sadly. "For what is worth... I'm sorry."
"I know..." I said matching his tone. "But I'm afraid 'sorry' isn't gonna cut it this time."
We had barely spoken since then. Thankfully for us, T'Challa had followed us to Siberia to kill Bucky, but he ended up listening to Zemo's confession. He then ended up arresting him, and Zemo was now under custody.
I also found out that while they were chasing our plane, Rhodey had an accident, becoming almost paralyzed. Things had definitely gone too far.
I couldn't help but miss Thor and Bruce. I was more than certain that if were with us when this whole thing happened, it wouldn't have ended the way it did. I just hoped they were okay, wherever they were.
After we left Berlin our friends had been arrested, but once Steve and I were able to figure out a plan, we freed them.
I was now in front of the compound. I had to be quick, I had a plane waiting on me.
I was scared to say the least. I hadn't seen Tony in more than a week, I didn't know how he would react.
I had a letter Steve wrote to him in my hand. He was a coward. I insisted on coming to talk to Tony personally, while Steve just handed me a letter.
I anxiously rang the doorbell.
Not a minute later, Tony opened the door.
We stayed still, just staring at each other.
"Hi." I said hesitantly. "I came alone." I said as I noticed him checking to seer if there was anyone with me.
"Come in." He said in an exhale.
"I'm glad you're here." I said smiling at him. "At the compound, I mean."
"Yeah, the house was getting lonely, and this way I can check up on Rhodey." He said as we walked towards the living room.
"How is he?" I asked, my heart feeling heavy.
"Hanging in there. There's already some progress so that's good." He said with a small smile.
"I'm glad to hear that." I said with the same smile.
We sat down on the couches. I grabbed his hand as I looked up at him teary eyed.
"You're leaving." He stated, trying to hide the fact that he was hurt.
"Yeah, uh..." I stopped to clear my throat. "We kind of broke our friends out of jail."
