"I hate this game." Destiny whispered to herself as she watched Game 7 of the Warriors-Kings series. "I hate it."
Destiny obviously loved the Warriors but a game of this much significance made it very difficult for her to watch it. She was already anxious for other reasons and this basketball game was adding to it. The Warriors losing playoff games was obviously unfamiliar territory. Destiny just wasn't prepared for the feeling she knew would fall over Chase Center if the Warriors didn't pull out a win.
There was about three minutes to go in the fourth quarter and Stephen Curry dribbled the ball up the floor with Harrison Barnes playing full court defense. The Warriors trailed by two points but they had a lot of time left to turn it around.
Steph passed the ball to Jordan who was fouled in the paint sending him to the free-throw line for two shots.
Jordan Poole is the leagues best free-throw shooter with a 96% accuracy.
"Yeah, Jordan!" Ryan yelled as he made the first one.
Destiny crossed her fingers as he made the second one, tying the basketball game at 104. That was a good sign, helping Dub Nation relax a little bit.
Much to their disappointment, that was the start to a long line of miscues for the Warriors.
For starters, Klay Thompson committed an unintentional foul, which lead to free throw shots for Harrison Barnes. Due to his frustration with that call, Steph threw his mouth piece and the Warriors were issued a technical foul for that. When the Warriors we're finally given an offensive possession, Jordan attempted to pass the ball to Steph but due to the double-team he was experiencing, it resulted in a turnover as well.
The Warriors loss Game 7 at home to Sac-Town, 104-112.
When the clocks hit zero, Destiny didn't bother looking at her fathers face up in his box because she knew it was nothing but disappointment.
As the Warriors players walked around to coaches and family members, Destiny talked to Ryan.
"I feel so sad." Destiny said, crossing her legs and setting her boot into the court. "I know Dad probably feels like it's fault."
"He definitely does."
Jordan made his rounds to the Clark family, shaking Janine's hand. She gave him a rare smile and encouraging words into his ear. The woman was hell to deal with but when it came down to having a heart, she had one.
Jordan just nodded, keeping his head down as he took in her words.
When Jordan got to Jalen, Jalen tipped his chin up and they shared a quick hug. "Head up, bro."
The guard nodded swiftly, hugging Ryan and MeMe next. "Good game, Jordan."
"Yeah. Good game."
"Thank y'all."
Destiny was behind Ryan so Jordan didn't see her at first but when he did, he walked up and gave her a swift hug because there were cameras around and he simply wasn't in the mood for the extra attention right now.
With that being said, Jordan didn't do what he wanted to do.
"You played good, Jordan." Destiny patted his shoulder. "Next year will be different."
"Thank you." Jordan says, putting the towel over his head and untucking his jersey. "I got a post game press-conference to do."
She pouted, able to pick up on his somber mood. "I can wait for you here, if you want."
"Come with me."
There was no reason for her to be around Jordan right now other than being there for a friend. So, that's what she was going to do.
