"Is this a thing that I need to be at?" Destiny asked her mother, whom resumed talking to her the other day. "I can't help out an Auction Gala."
Before today, Destiny had not ever heard of an Auction Gala or been to one. Today, she had to be at one for a reason unbeknownst to her. Her mother hadn't yet disclosed that information, but Destiny had a pretty good idea as to why.
"There will be men there." Janine adjusted parts of Destiny's dress, before pushing her hair behind her shoulder. "Since you ruined things with Christian, we have no make sure everyone knows you're an eligible bachelorette."
The younger woman groaned softly. "Mom."
"I need you to not do this right now, Destiny." Her mother instructed, tipping the 20 year old's chin upwards. "You've been doing a good job at keeping away from that Jordan. I don't need you flying off the rails again."
Destiny almost had to bite back a smile. "Sorry."
That whole thing about her not seeing Jordan? Not true.
Jalen managed to feed his mother a lie about taking Destiny out to help him look at apartments. That was partially true except while Jalen was looking at apartments, he was taking his younger sister to see Jordan.
It was a secret that was getting harder to keep. She didn't like lying to her mother but she had to because her mother was still under the impression that Destiny resorted back to being her perfect child.
The good thing about the Auction was, all Warriors players and members of the organization were invited. Jordan was going to be there and Janine was fucking nuts if she thought Destiny wouldn't find her way to him at some point during the night.
"Don't be sorry. Just do the right things." Janine instructed. "Now, let's go. Hurry, sweetheart."
Destiny walked carefully down the stairs, trying not to trip in her heels. One of the main reasons she didn't like talking at fancy events was because she was too busy trying not to fall and kill herself.
Everyone in the Clark family wore a royal blue because Janine wanted them to so Destiny wore a royal blue dress with a single high slit. It almost hit the floor if it weren't for the heels on her feet.
The Gala was already pretty busy when they arrived. Joe was here all day making sure things were done properly and there were players here already as well. The hosts and hostesses were dressed up very nicely, making Destiny have to say something.
"Excuse me." Destiny said to one brunette guy. "I really like your tux."
The boy who was easily a teenager smiled, a flustered look on his tan face. "Thanks."
"Stop, Destiny." Janine ushered her along. "Act like you have sense."
Ryan huffed. "Mom, please stop. You're about to make me angry."
Janine waved her off, sauntering to the reserved table for the Clark family. It was good because everyone was getting a headache and it was all because of her and the stuff she said.
When Joe walked up to greet his children, everyone was able to relax. "Hey, guys. How's everything going so far?"
"Go ask Mom." Jalen said. "Shawty been tripping all week."
That was true. While Janine was usually already obnoxiously rude, it had been at an all time high for the past week. It was unbearable to the point where Destiny didn't leave her own living area.
Joe sighed. "Well, don't let it bother you, please? I want you all to enjoy this."
"Aight, pops." Jalen agreed. "Where the wine at?"
