later that day...
"are you sure there's nothing you want to tell me?"
"nope, i already told you, my business is mine alone"
"but sunoo, we're friends! plus, everyone's wondering why you showed up to school with jake sim out of all people, you can't just expect people to not feel curious!" she pouted.
"uh-huh" sunoo hummed, still focused on the giant banner he was hanging, "could you pass me the scissors please?"
"you're ignoring me" she sighed while handing over the pair of scissors, sunoo was the toughest shell to crack.
he'd always been like this, or at least since high school started. no one remembers when or why he changed, they just knew the bubbly little boy that could talk for hours on end was no longer there.
"listen, wonyoung" he called, making her head perk up like a little puppy would, "i appreciate that you check up on me, but you don't have to be nice just because we're in the school committee together, just focus on ge—"
the words seemed to escape his lips as park sunghoon walked by, making eye contact with the younger for less than a second.
his internal monologue begged for sunghoon to walk away without saying a word, but because the universe hates kim sunoo, that did not happen.
"sunghoon-ah" wonyoung called, "you'll go to the pep rally tomorrow after school right? you've missed 3 of them already!"
just my luck, he thought.
the boy had a lost expression in his face, which then turned into an awkward smile "i- uh- yeah sure, sure. i'll be there" sunghoon mumbled.
wonyoung didn't seem to notice him exchange glances with sunoo, or the way an awkward silence took over the room as soon as she called him over.
"good! i'll see you there" she grinned with a wave as he began to walk away.
"you know, i think he's been kinda sad since the jay thing" she pouted looking back at sunoo, who remained frozen in place. "do you think he might be jealous?"
"huh?"
"of jay i mean, i overheard some people saying that he's got his eye on someone else already"
sunoo's lips parted as if he were to say something, but his mind was blank. he knew he hadn't attended the hotline for a day or two but, how did he miss so much already?
"t-they broke up?"
"you didn't know?" wonyoung raised a brow.
"no, i didn't uh... jesus" he sighed, "i'm really sorry wonyoung but could you finish up on your own? i just remembered there's something i have to do at home"
of course that was a lie, but he had to hear it for himself. his heart fluttered at the thought of having a chance with sunghoon, but there was one tiny problem...
he doesn't even remember who i am.
