although the school was never really divided by social cliques, pep rallies would always spark interactions between the most unexpected people.

take the time one of the rich kids was seen holding hands with the dorkiest member of the marching band for example, or that day kim sunoo showed up to school with non other than sim jaeyun, the jock from every girl's fantasies.

all kinds of people were brought together to celebrate the beginning of spring season, and what better way to get things started than a friendly basketball match with their neighboring school, daein high.

you guessed it, that's the same match sunoo and wonyoung were in charge of organizing along with the other class presidents, but the blond boy dipped in the middle of preparing the decorations, leaving wonyoung with her hands full over a call he never actually made.

she did a great job on her own though, the school hadn't looked this cheerful since the old  principal retired back in 2018.

as of now, everyone was sat by the bleachers waiting to see all the fun activities that took place before the match.

"oh jake, thank goodness!" sunoo squeaked, "can you go give this to your teammates in the locker room?"

the brunet instinctively grabbed the tray of drinks before actually realizing what the younger had just said.

"w-wait why me?"

"because i'm not sending wonyoung on her own into a room full of hormonal boys, also you're the team captain" he smiled teasingly.

jake rolled his eyes at the blond, "you're so lucky to have that pretty face of yours, sunshine"

he lightly pinched sunoo's cheek before walking off to the locker room, smiling at himself over how easily he gave in to the younger's requests.

"what was that about?" wonyoung suddenly spoke, curiously looking at the way sunoo brushed his fingertips over the blushed area.

"it was nothing! we're best friends, he always acts like that"

"uh huh" she giggled, "by the way do you know if sunghoon arrived yet? i didn't see his name in the attendance list"

sunoo's brows furrowed, now that he thought about it, he hadn't seen him all day. he wasn't in the cafeteria during lunch, nor did he show up to pre-rally warmups. it was strange, even for someone as mysterious as park sunghoon.

however, this was a perfect excuse for sunoo to try and talk with his childhood crush for the first time since the park incident. sure, he had no idea if sunghoon was at the school at all, but it was worth a shot.

"i could go look for him outside, he's probably just waiting for the game to start"

wonyoung quickly nodded and thanked him for the suggestion, leaving to continue attending the snack bar while sunoo made his way out of the gym.

the outside breeze had an icy chill to it, hinting that winter wasn't entirely gone yet.

sunoo mentally praised himself for thinking of putting his sweater on before heading outside and as he walked closer to the parking lot, he noticed a boy sitting on the sidewalk.

this better be sunghoon he thought as he walked closer, realizing that it actually was him.

"oh shit, did the game start already?" he asked, getting up with a quick jolt of his body.

he seemed really out of it, frantically patting down his pockets as if he were searching for something.

"actually the game is set for 7:30, but anyways— are you okay? you seem pretty anxious"

their eyes met for a moment, followed by a low chuckle from the older.

"it's that obvious, huh?"
