SPRING WAS NEARING its end, and [Name] was forced to make her presence in court known for the incoming celebrations... much to her displeasure that is.
Christa did her best to make it easier though. She'd planned out all of [Name]'s clothing in advance, and today it was a pale green dress embroidered with pearls and a yellow stocker. To add onto the extravagance she'd weaved flower-shaped pearls into her hair.
She was zoning in and out of the conversation she was having with Sasha and Ymir when they were interrupted.
"Your grace," A familiar voice spoke, followed by the small gurgle of a babe. She turned her head quickly and surely enough, Jean Kirschtein and Mikasa stood in front of her and wrapped up in Jean's arm was a small bundle wrapped in fine cloth.
[Name] stood instantly and her hand went up to cover her smile. Jean nudged his child forward and [Name] was able to see the babe in its entirety. It was blessed with ivory skin, pink-colored dust on its cheeks, wide-set black eyes, and tufts of dark hair.
"May I?" She asked.
"Of course, your grace." He handed the round-faced child over to her arms and she smiled as she cradled the soft thing against her chest.
"Is it a boy or a girl?"
"A girl." Jean beamed his eyes shining as he looked down at his daughter. "She's as breathtaking as her mother."
[Name] smiled. "Yes, she's beautiful..."
"Lady Mikasa!" Christa chirped behind [Name]. "Is the babe yours? Oh, she's the sweetest thing I've ever laid my eyes on. What did you name her?"
"Her name is Clara, after my late mother." Mikasa said, speaking for the first time, and her voice sounded weaker than it normally had, and [Name] could finally get a good look at her for the first time since she'd left court. Mikasa had dark circles under her eyes, her normally flush skin was pale, and her movement seemed sluggish at best.
"What a lovely name." [Name] smiled as the baby cooed in her arms. "Please take a seat... To be candid, I did not think I would see either of you in court for a couple more months."
"Yes, well we wouldn't have come back so early if it weren't for one thing." Mikasa said, sitting down in front of [Name].
"Is it the unrest with the common people?" [Name] asked quickly. "I can assure you that my husband and I are working tirelessly to mend the issue. We've even gone as far as creating marriage alliances to qualm the enemy countries."
"No, no, our reasoning isn't quite so bleak." Mikasa said and her eyes flickered over to her husband's for a moment. "Jean and I have spoken in length about this and... we want to ask a favor of you, your grace."
