YOU (RICK GRIMES)

PART THIRTY ONE

Hailey had her hands cover over her eyes expecting to hear a sound of a skull being cracked open, however a sound of a gun clicked instead as Hailey slowly took her hands off her face to reveal her boyfriend with a gun to Daryl's head. 

"We don't kill the living," Rick said in a low voice. 

"That's funny coming from a man who just put a gun to my head," He scoffed as he glanced over at Hailey. "You see this don't you Hailey? Your boyfriend is pointing a gun to my head,"

"Daryl," She began licking her lips. "We may disagree on some things, not on this. And also if I remember correctly that is my axe that your holding in your hand so give it here since you dont know how to use it properly," Hailey said getting closer to Daryl and Rick. 

It was to the point where she reached out her hand for him to put it in. Daryl continued to glare at her for a few minutes before giving in causing Rick to put the gun away as Daryl handed her the axe.

"Thought we had a moment," He grumbled pushing her against his shoulder before walking away. 

Rick who heard Daryl's comment gave Hailey a look as Hailey looked back at him. She just smiled before handing him the axe and walking towards Jim. 

"Hey Jim, its Hailey, I'm gonna need you to come with me," she said with a sad smile as she pulled Jim up by her hand. 

"Where are you taking me?"

"Somewhere safe sweetie," she responds as he follows behind her. 

Hailey took Jim to the RV and began setting up a place for him to lie down. Once finished, she set Jim down and helped him lay down on the makeshift bed. Jim swallowed. 

"Hailey," He called as she was fluffing his pillow.

"Yes Jim?" She asked looking at him to see a tear running down his face. 

"I'm sorry.... I'm sorry for earlier, your such a kind girl,"

"Oh Jim that's okay, I would've done the same, you were panicking,"

"But the thought of hurting you was in my brain..... You were just trying to help me, even stood up for me when everyone else wanted to bash my head in, you remind me of my wife, a kind gentle soul who wouldn't hurt a fly," he says causing her to chuckle as she grabbed his hand. 

"She sounds like a very nice woman Jim, I wish I could've met her,"

"She would like you," he said with a smile causing her to smile back as she kissed his forehead before leaving him and exiting the RV where she saw her boyfriend waiting for her. 

"Hey," She said smiling as she wrapped her arms around his neck, causing him to drop the stuff that was in his hands in order to wrap his around her waist. 

"Hey yourself, how is he?"

"He's alright so far, made him a bed to sleep on in the RV, He told me I reminded him of his wife and that she would've liked me,"

This caused Rick to chuckle as he kissed her forehead in a tender, loving way. 

"Who wouldn't like you?" he asked causing her to giggle. 

"Well there's Lori and there's Shane-"

She yelped when Rick dipped her down to the point where both noses touched each others. 

"They dont count," He says smirking before placing a kiss to her lips as Hailey moaned, melting into it. 

Every time they kissed she felt like she was floating on air and that nobody else was around them. Rick broke the kiss however when the sound of a gunshot was heard indicating that Andrea had killed her sister Amy. 

LATER 

Hailey, Rick and  Shane were digging graves near the campsite. Hailey could feel the tension between her boyfriend and Shane. 

"Say it," Rick finally said stopping in his tracks causing Hailey and Shane to do the same. 

"Okay. I'm thinking if you'd of stayed here, if you'd have looked after your own... Instead you went off with Hailey like always. You took half our manpower with you. I'm thinking maybe our losses wouldn't have been so bad if you hadn't of followed Hailey like a God damn puppy,"

"If we hadn't gone off and brought those guns back when we did, I think our losses would have been a lot worse. Maybe the entire camp. Hailey wouldn't have came back if I hadn't of gone,"

"Would that  be such a bad thing if she were to disappear? I mean she broke up you and Lori after all, personally Rick she's no good for you," He said shaking his head causing Hailey to drop the shovel. 

She had tears in her eyes looking between Rick and Shane before leaving those two behind she didn't want to hear the thoughts and opinions. 

It was a little while later when Rick found Hailey in the RV, Jim was sweating and she had a towel on top of his head. 

"Hailey," Rick said with a sigh. "How is he?"

"Not too good Rick," She replied not taking her eyes off him. 

"Listen, a funeral is being held for the people we lost..... After that you and I need to talk,"

"Okay," She said with a sigh. "Hey Jim, I'm going to attend the funeral for the people we've lost.... Will you hold the fort?"

"Your leaving?" He asked with a pout. 

She lightly smiled. 

"Only for a bit Jim,"

"I'm going to miss your presence around me,"

Hailey smiled one more time before she grabbed Jim's hand and patted it before leaving out of the RV. Everyone was standing around in a circle near the graves, when Hailey looked up she noticed Glenn was staring at her causing her to look away. Rick stood next to Lori, Carl and Shane as Hailey joined the left side of him. 

"We suffered a great loss due to the walkers attacking our campsite," Rick began causing Hailey to hold his hand for support. "But.... Know that this isn't the end for them, that we will see them again a much happier version of them, a goodbye is not forever.... its just the start, and I am truly sorry for those that lost someone, they are watching over us always," he finishes as everyone paid there respects before departing. 

Rick began leading Hailey a little ways from the group as he looked her in the eyes. 

"What Shane said back there it wasn't right, if you ever were to disappear I would die literally. You've been my life since day one I can't ever imagine my life without you by my side," Rick said causing her to smile.

"I feel the same Rick, I just got really offended I told Jim what happened,"

Rick chuckled. 

"What he say?"

"That he wants to punch Shane in the face,"

Rick laughed lightly before turning serious. 

"Shane blames me for not being here, Do you blame that too?"

Hailey shook her head. 

"Not at all Rick, we didn't know this would happen, besides if you hadn't have came I would probably still be with those other people in the nursing home, I wouldn't have been able to come back to you," She said wrapping her arms around his waist and putting her head on his chest. 

Rick rubbed her back as his head rested on top of her head. 

"I love you Hailey, and I want you and Carl safe,"

"I love you too Ri, more than you know,"

"Are you with me on the C.D.C. Plan?"

"Of course, I think you trust your instincts and I will back you up on it,"

Rick sighs pulling her closer to him. 

"I really wish I had married you instead of some fancy girl I had a crush on," 

Hailey chuckled. 

"Me too Rick, Me too," she said lifting her head from his chest to place a tender kiss on his lips.
