YOU (RICK GRIMES)

PART SIXTEEN

The group was back inside the store as Rick was handing out outfits and accessories to everyone except for Hailey.  

"Umm..... Rick forgetting about someone?" She asked with raised eyebrows as he licked his lips. 

"Its too dangerous and I'm not going to put you through this plan,"

"But you dont get to say what I can and cannot do, you don't control me,"

"Hailey, I want you safe stop arguing with me about this,"

"NO! I'm not going to sit back and watch while two of my boys gets to do all the dangerous stuff and dies! I wouldn't live with myself if either one of you got hurt and I wasn't there to do anything!" She shouts looking at both Rick and Glenn who looked back at each other.

"Hailey-" Glenn began with a sigh. 

"Please G! I want to help in anyway I can, I cant let you do this alone, and Rick remember our promise? To be by each others side through anything and everything you will break it if you dont let me go along,"

Rick sighed as he glanced at  Glenn again who glanced at Rick. Glenn slowly nodded his head. 

"Let her go, I'll protect her, I promise," Glenn says as Rick frowned. 

"I can protect her too you know, we'll both protect her,"

This caused Glenn to smile as he could sense a friendship forming with Rick, despite the difference over Hailey two things they have in common, one they both want the safety of Hailey Elizabeth Baxter, and two they are both unconditionally, and utterly in love with Hailey Elizabeth Baxter. 

"Alright looks like were letting you in on the plan," Glenn said with a smile causing her to smile at him as well as Rick handed her the outfit and accessories as well. 

" Hey look just stop, okay? Take some time to think this through," Morales said while shaking his head. "I dont think this is such a good plan,"

"Yeah well you've dismissed mine," Hailey said while changing into her outfit. 

" How much time? They already got through one set of doors, that glass won't hold forever," Rick told him as Morales looked at the walkers before nodding his head at Rick. 

The group then proceeds to head outside, with Hailey, Glenn and Rick carrying a walker while the others carry the other walker. Rick grabs a fire axe and the group puts on trench coats so they don't get guts on their good clothes. Rick is prepared to start chopping, but he stops at the last moment. He gets down and searches the Walker. He pulls out a wallet.

"Wayne Dunlap. Georgia license. Born in 1979. He had $28 in his pocket when he died..."

"Rest in peace Mr. Wayne, Rick do you want me to handle this? I have no problem with it," Hailey asked placing a hand on his shoulder as Rick closed his eyes and turned around to face her.

He placed his head on her forehead and closed his eyes as he grabbed onto her hand while giving her the wallet as well as he placed it inside her hand. 

"I need you to go stand beside Glenn, I've got this," he announces causing her to nod as he kissed her forehead before turning back around. 

She went to stand beside Glenn as she went through the wallet. 

"He also has a picture of a pretty girl. "With love, from Rachel." He used to be like us... Worrying about bills or the rent or the Super Bowl," Hailey listed off. 

"If I ever find my family, I'm gonna tell them about Wayne," Rick said smiling at Hailey. 

"One more thing... He was an organ donor," Glenn announced. 

The group took a moment of silence for Wayne and Glenn held onto Hailey's hand and gave it a squeeze letting her know he was with her, that he was there for her to comfort her. That's when Rick starts to hack away at the Walker. The guts really gross everyone out and they start to gag. Everyone but Hailey. 

"Madre de Dios!" Morales shouted in spanish looking away.

"Oh," Andrea said turning away. 

"Dios!" Morales announced again in spanish.

"Oh God. Hailey look away!" Glenn said but Hailey didn't listen as she only went to stand beside Rick. "Hailey what are you doing?! Dont!" Glenn shouted as Rick handed the axe to Hailey who nodded. 

"Keep chopping Hails," Rick said as she grinned and nodded her head.

"Hailey if you do this I am going to hurl!" Glenn shouted as Hailey only shrugged and started hacking away. 

Glenn indeed ended up throwing up at the sight of his ex girlfriend hacking away what used to be a person. He knew she loved zombies but not hacking them up! 

"Everybody got gloves? Don't get any on your skin or in your eyes," Rick said once Hailey finishes. 

"What do you think?" She asked Rick smiling as he looked at the barley visible walkers. 

"I think you had too much fun,"

"Rick, I told you I've been ready for this,"

"I'm not judging Hails,"

"Oh my..... Hailey how did you do that?" Glenn asked groaning as Hailey looked at him with worry as he was down on the ground.

"You okay G?" she asked in concern. 

"Watching you hack that man up just really got to me, I'll be fine,"

"Are you sure you want to go with me and Rick? If you can't handle it we can go on our own,"

Glenn tried to stand up, but when he looked at the chopped up body he couldn't help but hurl over the same place again. 

"He's sitting this one out," Hailey announced as she didn't see it  but Rick lightly smiled happy that Glenn wasn't coming along after all. 

A bit later the group supplied Guts and blood on both Rick and Hailey. 

"Guys, I can go along with, I'm supposed to protect Hailey," Glenn said from the ground. 

"G, Your not in good shape, we got this, Rick has been having my back since I was born he can protect me and I will protect him, right now I just need you to get better and drink some water,"

"mhmmm..... Forgive me Hails, please, I'm sorry I have to sit this out,"

Hailey smiled lightly at him. 

"Its okay, you getting better is my number one concern right now,"

"Do we smell like them?" Rick asked curious. 

"Oh yeah. Hailey. Just in case," Andrea said handing her a gun.

"Hailey Baxter you follow my every rule understand?" Rick asked glancing down at her. 

"Yes Officer friendly," she chuckles causing him to smile. 

"Been awhile since you called me that,"

"I know," she said smiling up at him as he did to her. 

"If we make it back, be ready," Rick said to the group. 

"If? No, no, no, no you said you'd protect Hailey!" Glenn shouted annoyed as a mixture of emotions ran through him, worry, concern, scared and nervous. 

"I will! let me rephrase that, When we make it back be ready,"

"That's better," 

"What about Merle Dixon?" T-dog asked as Rick handed him the keys to the handcuffs. 

"Give me the axe. We need... we need more guts and blood," Rick said as they handed him the axe and he started chopping away again.

Hailey couldn't understand why Rick chopping up a body makes her insides tingle with excitement.
