It was Midday when Rick, Shane, and Hailey were in the car eating. Hailey couldn't help but stay quiet and eat while Shane and Rick were talking together.
"Hailey, What's the difference between men and women?" Rick asks grinning at his friend as she's been quiet for too long for his liking.
She gave him a questionable look with her mouth full of a burger. Shane laughed.
"Is that a joke?"
"No serious, you go first since Hailey has her mouth full," he grins as Hailey glared over at him.
" Well, I personally never met a woman who knew how to turn off a light. They're born thinking in a switch, it only goes one way. On. They're struck blind the second they leave a room. I mean every woman, I ever let have a key... I swear to God. Come home, house all lit up, and my job, apparently because... because my chromosomes happen to be different cause I then gotta walk through that house, turn off every single light this chick left on,"
"Ever thought maybe it's because your choice in woman is to run the bill up?" Hailey asked once she swallowed her food and took an innocent sip of her drink.
"And your choice in men happens to be the married ones?" He bites back causing her eyes to widen.
"Woah hey now-"
"Excuse me? That's going a little too far! I do not go after married men I respect that!"
"Rick is married, yet you don't leave him alone,"
"Guys-"
"Listen dickward he's been my best friend since I don't know the day I was born! He knew me way before you!"
"GUYS ENOUGH! Both of you are my best friends there is no need to argue, Shane there is no love interest going on between us I don't even feel anything for her, she's just a best friend that's all she means to me," he denied causing a pain to feel in Hailey's heart.
What would she expect? He is married, he wouldn't even think of her that way and neither should she.
He's right they are only best friends nothing more nothing less. It was quiet for a few moments as Shane was the one to speak again.
"So how's it with Lori, man?" He asked as Hailey went back to being quiet and munching on fries.
"She's good. Really good," he said looking down causing Hailey to sigh.
"Rick..... I think he means marriage wise," she said causing Shane to nod.
"We didn't have a great night," he responded looking pained.
That's right, lately Lori and Rick have been falling out with each other, all this arguments and her accusing Rick of cheating on her with Hailey even, which is also why she wants to have dinner this Friday to straighten things out.
"Look, man, I may have a... fail to amuse with my sermon, but I did try. The least you could do is speak,"
"He does speak," Hailey mumbled causing Shane to glare over at her.
"You'd know, wouldn't you? After all you are the reason why they are having a problem,"
"HEY!" Rick yelled pissed off and upset ."You dont get to talk to her like that, do you understand?"
"Whatever," he rolled his eyes as he took his eyes off Hailey.
"That's what she always says: "Speak". "Speak". You'd think I was the most closed mouth son of a bitch you'd ever hear her telling," he said causing Hailey to chuckle.
That's the thing about Rick, while sometimes he speaks his mind and he doesn't with Lori, he will do with Hailey. He is her go to for everything, especially when they have a fight thats when Rick will leave the house to go to hers and sometimes cries into her chest when the fight becomes severe. And if Shane were to find that part out, he'd definitely accuse the two of being more than just friends and probably tell Lori about it.
"Do you express your thoughts? Do you share your feelings and that kind of stuff?" Shane asked bringing Hailey back to reality.
"The thing is... lately whenever I try... everything I say makes her impatient, like she didn't want to hear it after all. It's like she's... pissed at me all the time, and I don't know why. Hailey is a better listener than Lori would ever be, and that's what breaks my heart,"
"Rick," Hailey whispered feeling sad for him.
"Look, man, that's just shit couples go through. Nah, it's... It's a phase. I think the best thing for you is to maybe stop hanging around so much with Hailey, that's the biggest reason why shes upset,"
"Shane is right Rick, maybe I am the problem and I dont want to be the problem anymore, if it means saving your marriage I-"
"Dont you say it," he growls. "Your not about to leave my side, you've always been there, please Hailey dont say it,"
"Dead man walking if you keep hanging around her," Shane grumbles causing Hailey to frown.
"All available units, high speed pursuit in progress Lincoln county units request local assistance. Highway 18 south GTAAD W217 243. Proceed with extreme caution,"
"Finally some action!" Hailey squealed in excitement as Rick smiled and Shane only rolled his eyes.
