YOU (RICK GRIMES)

PART EIGHT

"Hailey about yesterday, I want to apologize," Morgan said as soon as she came down the stairs. 

Hailey smiled as she nodded at him in return. 

"Its okay.... Its not something I really like to talk about, Rick and I are gonna head to the city are you coming?"

"Its a bad idea Hailey, and you know that, them walkers are out there they will tear you apart,"

"Hailey has been preparing her whole life for this, nothing will get to her," Rick chuckles heading down the stairs while buckling his pants. 

"Well before you two go I packed a bag for you both it has food and water thats not expired," Morgan said handing a bag to Hailey who took it and nodded with a thanks. 

"Morgan, thanks for everything and letting us stay a night,"

"Your welcome.  remember what I said Rick, yeah?" he said causing Hailey to blink in confusion

He smirked before rubbing her hair with his hand. 

"HEY!"

"I will dont worry Morgan,"

"If you sure you want to leave we wont stop you, hope you find your family too," 

"Thanks stay safe will you?"

"Yeah," he responds just as Rick and Hailey left the house. 

Rick and Hailey eventually finds a working police car and starts heading down the road towards the city. She ends up grabbing the radio as Rick looks over at her. 

"What are you doing with that thing?" he asks with a raised eyebrow.

"Well, you know how in movies they get in touch with people with the radio, that's exactly what im doing,"

"You basing a real life apocalypse over movies?"

"Yup that's me," she says with a grin causing Rick to laugh. 

"What would I do without you?"

"Go insane I bet," she mumbles with a small smile before she began speaking on the radio. "We'll be approaching Atlanta on Highway 85. Anybody reads, please respond. Hello. Hello. Can anybody hear my voice? Anybody out there? Anybody hears me, please respond. Hello, can you hear my voice? My name is Hailey Baxter I'm out here with Rick Grimes, can anybody respond?" She asks but all she hears is static on the other side. 

"I dont think anybody hears ya Hails," 

"You know how they do someone will come along, Anybody who reads, please respond. Broadcasting on emergency channel. We'll be approaching Atlanta on Highway 85. Anybody reads, please respond," 

Again no answer as Hailey sighed in sadness. 

"What if its really just us?"

"Is that such a bad thing?" Rick asks looking over at Hailey. "I mean we do have each other," 

"Rick......"

"Why are you hesitating on being with me Hailey?"

"You never wanted me before until now," she whispers looking down. 

Rick reached over and grabbed onto her hand with one hand on the steering wheel and his eyes out on the road. 

"Thats not true, I have always wanted you, I didn't think you'd want me which is why I didnt go for you, I thought maybe you only viewed me as a friend and nothing more,"

This caused Hailey to shake her head. 

"You really are a stupid officer, I've always loved you Rick! Even after you broke my heart by marrying Lori a girl you met by chance," 

He sighed. 

"I know, I made a stupid mistake, why did you always stay around me then if I broke your heart?"

"Because we made a promise to never leave each other's side, although you left mine for awhile but I did get my revenge though,"

"Revenge? What are you talking about Hailey?"

"Well, while you were off in la la land I might've met somebody myself and just didn't tell you about him, in a way our relationship was a secret,"

This caused Rick to gulp. She was in a relationship before? With who? He couldn't think of any man besides him being with Hailey and now she goes to reveal she was with someone else besides him?

"Who was it?" he growls knuckles turning white from gripping the steering wheel to hard. 

"Well, hes a really sweet Asian boy, we met one day when I ordered some pizza, his name is Glenn Rhee but we broke up though after 7 months,"

"Why did you break up?"

"Because I realized I didn't love him, because I love you, I ended things between us in a way he was just a distraction to get over you," 

"Did it work?"

She chuckled. 

"No, because I still love you,"

"And I love you Hails, more than just a best friend,"

"Once we find out if Lori is alive then we can discuss us being together,"

"Right that was the deal,"

It was silent for the rest of the ride, a comfortable silence at that. Hailey was just looking at all the dead bodies that littered on the ground while Rick paid attention to the road ahead of him. The city was coming to a view when suddenly the car stopped by itself down the road.

"What happened?" Hailey asked causing Rick to sigh.

"Were out of gas, my dumbass wasn't paying attention,"

"Great officer Grimes," She sighed before getting out of the car with Rick following.

The two were walking down the road with the sun blazing down at them. It was hot and sweaty as Hailey wiped her forehead with the back of her arm. She doesn't know how many miles they've walked until they stumbled upon a house with a horse in the stable. The two grinned at each other as Hailey slowly approached the horse. 

"Easy now, easy. I'm not gonna hurt you. Nothing like that. More like a proposal. Atlanta's just down the road ways. It's safe there. Food, shelter, people, other horses too, I bet. How's that sound?" She asks trying to calm the horse down however it didn't work as the horse kicks up its high legs causing her to fall right on her butt. 

Rick was laughing. 

"Oh shut up! like you can do better?!" She asks angrily as she gets up and dusts herself off. 

"I-I'm sorry Hails! That was too funny, if I had a phone I would've recorded,"

"Yeah whatever, you try it,"

He nods his head as he slowly approaches the horse who was in a defensive position. 

"Hey now  its okay boy.... shhh..... we just need a ride to Atlanta, we can also take care of you and find you some food..... can you help us help you?" he asked expecting the horse to reply. 

Which it did causing Hailey's jaw to drop when it neighed after his proposal. Rick began to wrap the harness around the horse. 

" There we go. Good boy. Good boy. Now come with us. Come with us," Rick gently says leading the horse out of the stable. 

"Grimes sometimes I dont understand you,"

"What? That I'm an amazing horse whisperer?" He asks getting on the horse. 

He holds his hand out for Hailey which she gladly takes as she jumps over the horse and gets on the back of it. 

"Just shut up and drive," She said holding onto him with her head pressed on his back as Rick moved the reigns causing the horse to neigh as it was riding down on the road.
