Team Captain America had technically lost the airport battle, but Steve and Bucky were able to escape and head to Siberia. Natasha had defected at the last minute, letting the soldiers escape with the jet and neutralizing Black Panther. She was currently lying in wait, knowing that the authorities would also come after her.
Clint, Wanda, Scott, Sam and Hayden were apprehended and taken to the Raft, a floating prison at sea. They had been there for 24 hours, the atmosphere was as you would expect for five prisoners.
Wanda was the only individual with powers among them and was held in a special holding cell different from the others. They requested that she wear a straitjacket so that she could not use her magic.
Surprisingly, Tony arrived at the Raft to speak with Thaddeus Ross. Stark had found out about Helmut Zemo and how he had framed Bucky. He felt guilty for not listening to Steve, and everything that had happened could have been avoided if he had.
He wanted to make things right.
Secretary Ross had not listened to Tony, so he went into the waiting area to talk with the others under the guise of trying to keep up with Steve.
Tony Stark walked through the mechanical doors and into the room. He saw the other side, people who were his friends, behind bars and in their cells.
"The Visionary, gentlemen!" Said Clint as he stood up and began to clap. "The Visionary is here! He sees everything!" He sat back down on his bed, looking down. "He knows better than you what's good for you."
"It's okay, Barton." Said Tony as he walked toward his cell. "I didn't know they'd put you in here."
Hayden's cell was on the other side of the room.
"You knew they would put us somewhere, Tony." Said the Timelord.
Tony sighed as he turned around.
"Not in that hypersecure floating shed. This is a clink for psychopaths, not for..."
"Criminals?" Hayde interjected. "Criminals, Tony." He stood up and climbed toward the bars. "The universe has called me many things: the destroyer of the Daleks... the virus of the Cybermen... the jailer of the Angels... the deserter of the Time War... but criminal. We were never called that. Not me, not Clint, not Sam... not Wanda... The world owes us a debt, but that debt is easily forgotten by people like Ross."
Tony didn't answer and looked at Hayden.
"You broke the law." Said Tony. "I had nothing to do with it. I don't understand, why didn't you think of that before you chose the wrong side?"
Tony walked away from Clint's cell, and quickly passed Scott's
"Hank Pym told me to watch out for the Starks." Said Scott.
He looked at the man.
"Just who are you?" He asked before continuing to walk.
"I'm dreaming." Scott sighed.
Tony walked over to Hayden's cell. It pained him to see an Avenger he saw become the man he was now behind bars. He remembered when he helped eliminate the Chitauri. He remembered that last year they had taken down Ultron together. Over the past few months, he had seen the budding romance between him and Wanda.
Now, here stood the Timelord. He and his fellow labeled criminals.
"How's Rhodey?" Hayden asked, crossing his arms and looking at the wall. He wanted to know if his friend was okay.
"We're transferring him to Columbia tomorrow. So...fingers crossed." Tony replied.
Hayden began to shake his head.
"What do you need? Are they still feeding you?" Tony asked.
Hayden laughed as he looked at him.
"Are you the good cop now? You want me to remind you what happened at the airport? You knocked Sam out too."
"I'm just the guy who needs to know where Steve went." Said Tony.
Tony began tapping on his high-tech watch and turned off the sound of the security cameras.
"I just disabled the audio. We have thirty seconds before they figure it out."
Hayden looked around, no longer sure if he should trust Tony.
"Look." Said Tony, and quietly began to show a hologram of the body of the real physiatrist who was supposed to be taking care of Bucky in Berlin. "This... is the guy who was supposed to interview Barnes."
Hayden looked at him. That was exactly what Steve had explained to him.
"I was wrong, Hayden. I was wrong." Said Tony.
"That's a first." Hayden remarked sarcastically.
"Captain's out of line, but he's going to need some help." He said.
Hayden sighed. This time, Tony was genuine. He wanted to go help Steve and admitted his mistakes.
"Okay, but if I tell you...you have to go alone as a friend." Hayden imposed.
Tony nodded his head.
"Okay."
--------------------------------
The next day, Hayden leaned against the bars of his cell. He wouldn't mind having a book right now, but the U.S. Marshals weren't going to give him any form of recreation.
It hurt to see Wanda across the room in her cell, still confined in her straitjacket. It was the exact opposite of what he wanted.
Just a few months ago, they had talked about the possibility of exploring the world.
Then, just a few days ago, he explained to her that the Accords could be a stepping stone for everyone to discover themselves.
Now they were in a super-criminal prison. The world viewed them as criminals.
Out of the corner of his eye, Hayden saw one of the security cameras go off. He raised an eyebrow, but chose to ignore it. Some time later, the lights went out and the mechanical doors opened.
Sam half expected the guards to enter and do their routine checks, but he peered through the bars...and saw a familiar face in the shadows.
"Told you he wouldn't leave us out to dry." Sam remarked with a smile.
"Well, what took you so long?" Hayden said.
Steve walked over to the access panel and shorted it out, causing the cell doors to open.
"Sorry I couldn't get here sooner. Said Steve.
"We'll try not to hold it against you." Said Clint as he stepped out of his cell.
Wanda's door opened and Hayden immediately went to help her out of the straitjacket.
"Finally." Wanda exhaled as she stretched, once she was free of her restraints.
They regrouped in the room. And Steve handed the key to Hayden.
"Perfect." He said as he pressed the key, making the TARDIS appear in the room.
"At least this is where you can get away quickly." Said Sam.
"Shouldn't we be worried about the guards?" Scott asked.
"I've dealt with them. Bucky is back at the jet." Replied Steve.
"We'll have to go get him then." Said Hayden as he opened the TARDIS.
Clint stretched and cracked his knuckles.
"It's been fun, but believe me when I say I'm officially retired now." He said.
"All right, Clint. Go home and take care of your family." He then looked at Scott. "Same to you, Lang. I'm sorry I dragged you into this."
"No hard feelings, Cap. Helping you was an honor." Said he.
"Come on, let's move." He said as he, Hayden, Sam and Wanda.
Clint and Scott staying to hopefully get a deal with Ross.
The TARDIS then disappeared from the room and retrieved Bucky from the top of the Raft and the group was able to make their escape.
