[Unrequited love]

Remember when we were kids?
Sitting next to each other
Having fun, getting to know one another better
Playful fight after and during class
Teasing, mocking, having one another
As time passed

Remember when we were kids?
The kind of love that we had
Stealing secret glimpses
Blushing at corny jokes
Bullying one another till
Down the sun goes

I remember when we were kids
We had our differences
Yet were incomplete on our own
I buried myself in books
Whilst you drowned the room
In laughter
Even after so much time has passed
It's you who my heart sought after

Do you remember when we were kids?
The kind of gossip that we
Shared?
The kind of houses we built
On sands widespread

I hate that I remember it all.
Your gummy smile,
Crinkled eyes and
Half a decade later
I'm still waiting for your call

Poem explication

The poem is pretty self explanatory. It is a poem dedicated to my now "just" friend, who used to be my best friend and also someone I used to crush on. We both liked one another, never disclosed our feelings and now we've grown apart. And if you're reading this, just know that I miss you a lot.

The poem begins with the narrator asking someone who isn't present at the moment, whether or not they remember their shared childhood. The line is a rhetoric and it is pretty clear the person doesn't remember much. The narrator goes on to describe their memories of the person.

In the third prose, the narrator confesses that they still love their person as much as they earlier did. The last prose indicates the ruined relationship as the "friend" hasn't contacted the narrator in a long time.

If y'all liked the poem free feel to let me know in the comments, each interaction means a lot to me honestly. Thank you stay safe and loads of luv ❤
