At sunset Jason and Angie came back smiling like an ordinary young couple on their honeymoon. It then dawned on Leila, they never even went on their honeymoon. Everything that was normal for other people, in their lives was anything but.

Looking at her sister, she once again realized how different they were. Angie has grown at least 10 in two years, although she has always been much more mature for her age. Leila was glad that Angie had found peace after everything, but she always wondered if she would have been happier if her father had let her go to college and choose who and whether she would marry.

She laughed nervously when she noticed that her sister was looking at her worriedly. Her mind wandered again. She used to pray that her father would tell her if he would marry her to someone just so that this agony would end.

Running away from dark thoughts, she poured herself another Pina Colada. She stopped counting them some time ago.

-"Do you think you drank too much?" - Dylan asked worriedly.

-"Sorry Mr. John Reins, I didn't recognize you." - she answered his question sarcastically.

-"Leila, what's going on with you?" - he was still worried. But his concern for Leila was too much right now. She just wanted to relax.

-"Jesus Christ Dylan! Will you just leave me alone?" - she got angry.

He raised his hands in surrender. -"Whatever you want." -He said.

She drained her glass and joined the rest of the group on the terrace.

-"Jason..." - she was drunk. Angie saw it right away. -"Dear brother in law...have you ever felt guilty?" - she asked him and surprised the whole group with her question.

Luckily, Jason saw the state she was in and calmly asked her to sit next to him. She obeyed him and poured herself another glass. Emma watched concerned, she wasn't the person she met at college, she was...unhappy.

But once she sat down at the table next to Jason she calmed down, or so it seemed. Dylan was still looking worried as the others changed the subject. Melanie had just told them about her trip to California last summer. Angie listened wistfully. She'd be lying if she said she didn't miss LA, even though New York has become her home.

Not participating in the conversation, Jason whispered to her: -"every day."

She turned her gaze towards him. She had already forgotten her question that she had asked him a few minutes ago. -"What?" - she looked at him with curiosity.

-"You asked if I ever feel guilty. Every day." - he repeated.

-"Even now, after everything?" - she still couldn't believe it.

He looked at her sister. -"I love her more than anything. That's why I should have let her go. That's what a real man would do. That's what a good person would do. But we both know I'm not a good person. I'm a selfish bastard with a guilty conscience." - he said and drained the glass.

She was shocked. She's sure Angie didn't know Jason felt that way either.

She looked away to the open sea, thinking about her future. Realizing that she could not influence it, she decided to take control of the present.

It was late when everyone went to bed. Leila took a shower and somehow stumbled to the bed, still drunk. She would be lying if she said she didn't need it.

Dylan remained sitting in the living room drinking his last glass of whiskey. Maybe he made the wrong decision, he thought. He still remembers when Jason asked him if he wanted to talk to Leila's father. But all Dylan wanted for Leila was freedom. The freedom to go to college, the freedom to live and meet people, the freedom to fall in love with whoever she wants and the freedom to marry whoever she wants.

However, fate kept bringing them together. As if it tested them.

It was 2 o'clock in the morning when he got up and decided it was time to rest. Nothing that happens after 2 doesn't turn out to be good. She was still awake when he entered the room.

-"I can still sleep in the living room if you want." -He said.

-"Dylan, Dylan, Dylan..." - she laughed. -"When did we become strangers?"

He paused and smiled. No, they were certainly not strangers.

-"Nights are the worst." -she continued now with serious look on her face. -"I don't want to think, you know? I just want to let go of it...I just want to rest."

-"Shh...everything's going to be ok, I promise. I'm going to take a shower. Try to sleep." - he told her.

When he went back to the room she was sleeping peacfully. He watched how beautiful she is. So beautiful. And she'll never be his. He'll personally make sure of that. He'll make sure that she's free. Free to live however she wants.

He lay down next to her and pulled her close, kissing the back of her head. Evening out his breathing with hers finally falling asleep.
