Aiden
"Hi yes, welcome Aiden. Here is your schedule."
About 10 minutes ago I was telling myself to walk into this office, although I'd rather put a bullet through my skull than do this first day new kid bullshit.
I graduated last year at 18, so how Marco got me into highschool as a 19 year old, surprised me a little.
"Thank you ma'am." I said, taking the bright pink peice of paper the office lady was handing to me. 7 classes, 8 periods including lunch.
The office lady was sweet and looked decently aged, so I didn't bother being an ass to her about my choice of classes.
Biology first thing in the morning, then english, math, geography. After lunch I had history, welding, and art.
You've got to be kidding me.
I walked out of the office, picking up my empty backpack from the floor. It wasn't completely empty, I had about two pencils, but I wasn't planning on doing any work anyway.
The second I left the office, the bell rang. I knew the passing periods at this school were about 10 minutes each, so I pulled out my phone and dialed Marco's number.
"I'm at work, is this an emergency?" Marco said, sounding very annoyed on the other line.
"Yes you absolute dick, what are these classes?"
Marco laughed. "Those are Maria's classes, except for welding. That's for you, I thought you would like it better than Advanced Spanish."
The schools hallways were way too crowded for my taste, despite how massive this school was. It reminded me of the school from High School Musical, a movie I watched about a thousand times when I was younger.
"Aiden?"
I realized I had forgotten to respond to Marco, giving him an annoyed huff and hanging up as I made my way to Biology. Announcements came over the loudspeakers as people walked to their classes. It was the regular morning news and weather, nothing special.
I looked down at my peice of paper, classroom 315 was the biology room. As I walked in, students filing in behind me, I saw a large man with a white beard sitting at his desk at the front of the room.
He looked up at me as I got closer, pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose. "Hello."
"Are you Mr. Greene?" I asked the man, showing him my pink paper.
"Yes. Uhh you'll need a lab partner." The man said, looking around the room breifly before looking up at me. "How tall are you?"
"Tall enough." I said, looking around the room just as he had. There were empty desks sure, but no one sitting by themselves. I tried to see if I could spot Maria, but she was nowhere to be seen.
If she's not here in 5 minutes i'm going looking for her.
"I don't see anyone open." I said to the teacher, who nodded.
"Well just take a seat, Maria Sanchez is a very bright young girl. She has a lab partner already who... isn't here. I'll move a few things around if you don't mind being with her." Mr. Greene looked up at me for an answer. "I'm sure you'll need the extra help, being new."
"That's fine. Which one is she?" I asked, looking around the room again incase I missed her. A song came on over the loud speakers, warning students that the final bell was to ring in a minute. It was some peppy song you would hear on the radio, and I yet again would rather put a bullet through my skull than do this.
"Uhh... hm. Not here either." The old guy looked around the classroom in confusion as if Maria was going to appear out of thin air. "Well just sit down, maybe she's running late."
I walked down the row of lab benches, not bothering to look down at the kids who were clearly staring and whispering as I passed. The seats in the very front and very back were taken, so I attempted to find one towards the back.
The front seats were taken up by the teachers pets and over achievers, and a few kids in the very back looked ready to sleep through the entire class. I could smell weed wafting from one of the kids with his head on the table, wondering how addicted you have to be to get high at 8:00 in the morning.
Just as the bell rang, a very rushed looking girl walked in. She had long black hair, clearly artificially curled at the ends. She was short which meant her hair almost touched her waist. She had bangs covering the sides of her forehead, a small gap in the middle. Her brown eyes crinkled as she smiled at Mr. Greene with an apologetic look, the words "i'm sorry" already on her lips. She was dresssed in a red sundress with a white cardigan over it, black backpack sitting low on her back. She was also wearing black converse as her choice of shoes, and I was looking over every inch of her.
Not- in a weird way. Just making sure this is the girl I'm looking for. Well- looking after.
It was definitely Maria.
