Marco
Finishing up my final work call of the evening, I sat down at the kitchen counter. Maria was up in her room, clearly upset about something.
I didn't pry at her, knowing teenage girls are hormonal and she had probably just lost a chapstick or something.
It wasn't until I was making myself dinner that I became concerned as Aiden burst into the house, front door slamming open and his large body walking towards me.
He looked angry, furious even. I stood up from the barstool and walked towards him, concern all over my face and my hands in front of me.
"Woah woah, what happened?" I asked, voice careful as Aiden stared at me, his eyes full of anger.
"I can't fucking do this Marco." Aiden spat, running his hands through his hair before gripping it. "I cant do this anymore."
"Do what?" I froze, knowing he meant working for me. "Aiden please, she can't be that bad."
"She's not!" Aiden raised his voice, his tone less angry and now emotional. "She's fucking incredible."
"What?"
I stared at Aiden, my stomach dropping. Oh god.
"Aiden what are you saying?"
"She's fucking goregous and she has the best goddamn heart. She cried while yelling at me today, fucking cried. She's an angel and I can't do this anymore." Aiden seemed pained, staring into my eyes. "Marco i'm in love with her."
"No." My tone was stern as I dropped my hands, anger rising up within me. "Fuck no Aiden."
Aiden laughed, looking at me with disbelief. "I won't fight you Marco, I won't go after her. She never has to know."
I laughed at him, praying to god Maria wasn't woken up by the yelling. "So what you just quit?"
"Yeah." Aiden looked at me in the eyes, and I knew he was genuine. He loved Maria, he was probably the only person I would ever allow to love her, but I couldn't. Knowing Aiden's past, it was too much.
"So what I just find a new bodyguard?" I was pissed at this point, knowing no one else would be up for it. "There's no way you're in love with her, it's only been a few months."
"It pains me Marco, it fucking hurts. I want to be around her, I want to get to know her, and I can't." Aiden gripped his hair again, clearly frustrated. "And it fucking sucks because i'm so goddamn close to her-"
"What?"
I froze, Maria's voice loud and clear. I turned to see her standing at the bottom of the stairs, still in the white dress that she went to the football game in.
"Maria I-" I didn't know what to say, simply staring at her and waiting for her reaction.
"You were a bodyguard?" Maria was looking at Aiden now, who was silent. "And you-" She turned to me, gaze filled with rage. "You hired him!? You've invaded my privacy my entire life and now-" Maria paused, looking between me and Aiden. "I cant stand either of you, I can't be here right now."
Before I knew it Maria was running out the front door, Aiden not far behind her. He was calling her name, Maria continuing to run.
I ran after the two, stopping on the front porch because they were gone. Both of them had disappeared from veiw in a matter of seconds, and that's when my eye caught a black van driving away at an outrageous speed.
Oh shit.
