Maria
He wasn't answering. He told me he would text me before bed, it was 10:00, he wasn't answering.
I wondered for a second if it was me, if I did something. Ever since I asked Aiden about his past, he's been acting weird.
He was completely zoned out when we were watching movies earlier, the only time he seemed present was when he kissed me goodbye.
And now I was sitting in my bed, waiting for a goodnight text. A call, anything.
I tapped on Aiden's contact, scrolling down to see that he was sharing his location with me. He was at a place called Tanner's, which I was hoping was a bar and not a strip club.
It couldn't be that hard for him to get into a bar, could it? I mean he looked old enough, tattoos and everything. But what was he doing at a bar?
Well there was one way to find out, so I threw on jeans and a green sweater, got an Uber, and headed off to Tanner's.
It was relatively easy to sneak out, considering our apartment was old and the windows didn't have screens on them.
As I stepped out of the Uber, onto the sidewalk in front of Tanner's, I let out a sigh of relief that it was only a bar, a pretty empty one.
I checked one last time to make sure this is where Aiden was before I headed inside, immediately regretting my decision to show up.
The bar was old-timey inside, mostly older guys playing some card games. The place was pretty cozy, but that didn't excuse what I saw.
Aiden had company, he wasn't alone. And his company was a tall brunette bartender, who was currently leaning over the counter and laughing as she talked to Aiden.
Before I could turn around, her eyes left Aiden and landed on me, Aiden immediately spinning in his barstool.
His dark skin seemed to glow in the yellowish lighting, his brown eyes looking over me before a concerned look overtook his face. "Maria?"
"You weren't answering my calls." I said, voice shy as I began to approach. After all, he was my boyfriend. I had a right to be there.
"Oh fuck," Aiden slapped his forehead with one hand, his voice slightly slurred. "I'm so sorry."
As I approached, now standing in front of Aiden, he reached me for me with open arms. But I wasn't too comfortable yet, not when the goregous brunette woman was looking at me with a smile on her face. She looked all too pleased to see me, jealousy beggining to form a pit in the bottom of my stomach.
Why was he here with her?
Why didn't he answer my calls? Or my texts?
Was she more important than me.
Aiden frowned when I slid into the barstool next to him, my hands folded in my lap. I looked to the woman across the counter, avoiding the way Aiden was eyeing me.
"I'm not 21, do you have lemonade?" I asked, the woman nodding.
"Yeah, it's $5.00 for a large, $2.00 for a medium." The woman said, glancing over at Aiden.
"That's fine." I popped off my phone case and slid the woman the $5 bill I had there, thinking it was too much to bring my whole wallet. "I'll take the large."
The woman took the money and dissapeared around the back, Aiden reaching out for me as if it pained him to be ignored.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm getting a lemonade." I said, watching as his hand landed on my thigh. "I thought it would be rude to walk in and not order anything. Sorry to interrupt though, i'll leave as soon she comes back."
