Maria
"He totally reminds me of Edward, don't you think?" Lauren asked, leaning into Evan so she could look around me to peek at Aiden.
He always sat at the same table, the one towards the back of the cafeteria that happened to be directly behind mine and Lauren's. There were a couple of our friends from class that sat at the same table, but Lauren and I were always caught up in our own conversations.
Now that Evan had joined us, the three of us became even more detatched from the rest of the table.
"From twilight?" I asked, frowing at Lauren. "Stop staring it's rude."
"It's his vibes." Lauren shrugged, Evan looking even more confused than I looked.
"Vampire vibes?" Evan asked, raising an eyebrow at Lauren. He no longer spoke to Jackson on Lauren's behalf, but I appreciated it too.
"Dark, moody, mysterious." Lauren said, looking at Aiden again. "Not to mention what he said to you yesterday, 'im not good for you'." Lauren mimicked Aiden's voice very poorly, which was as low as she could go. "it's giving very much Edward from the second movie where he leaves Bella."
I rolled my eyes, but she was slightly right. "Yeah okay Lauren."
"And the way he watches you." Lauren was still staring before letting out a sharp "Ouch!"
I was sure that Evan had pinched her from the way her was laughing, Lauren smacking him on the shoulder.
"Stop being a creep." I said, smiling slightly as I watched the two.
"Me!?" Lauren was laughing. "He's the creep, he's like stalking you."
"Don't encourage her." Evan said, rolling his eyes. "Maria is already paranoid enough that he's stalking her."
"I have my reasons." I shrugged, glancing behind my shoulder. I met Aiden's dark eyes instantly before he looked away, making it painfully obvious he had been staring at me.
"You should come with me to the football game this friday." Lauren suggested. "Evans playing so I'll be sitting alone on the bleachers without youuuu." Lauren whined, reaching across the table to grab my hands.
"I don't know, Marco..." I sighed, squeezing Lauren's hands.
Once Marco had realized that I hadn't slept at Lauren's, and was very hungover, he became even stricter with letting me out of the house late.
"Technically you wouldn't be breaking any rules, you're allowed to go to school." Lauren grinned. "Plus you've already broken two of his top three. No dating, No getting hurt."
"That's different, he doesn't know I broke them." I insisted, frowing at how many rules I had broken. "Plus i'm still going strong with number three."
"Come onnnnn." Lauren said, still holding on tight to my hands. "At least try, we know your stalker will protect you."
I rolled my eyes, knowing Aiden definitely wouldn't be there to protect me after what he said last night. "Alright, i'll try."
"Yes!" Lauren grinned. "I'll help you pick out an outfit."
"Okay Laur." I smiled, happy to see my best friend so excited. "We should match."
Lauren nodded. "School colors?"
I nodded, knowing I had a white dress somewhere in my closet that I could pair with a dark blue jacket. The lunch bell rang and students began to clear out, Lauren and I sliding our bags on. "I'll call you tonight."
With that I headed off to my next class, Aiden not far behind. I didn't bother trying to talk to him, knowing how it would end.
Friday rolled around faster than I thought it would, offering me a chance to test my stalker theory. I asked around to see if anyone had ever spotted Aiden at any of the football games so far this year, and the answer was no.
If he showed up, that would be enough proof that he was watching me and the previous encounters were not just coincidences. I also thought about wandering off a little from the game, into the parking lot, asking some random stoner to smoke and seeing if Aiden would appear.
It was a dumb plan, but putting myself in harms way was the only way I could confront Aiden.
I wondered if he had a crush on me and that's why he was always following me around, but that idea left my head very quickly. He was an asshole who didn't want me to be around him, yet he could never leave me alone. Something was going on.
So I put on the white sundress and dark blue Jacket, pinned the front two sections of my hair back with a white bow, and headed off with Lauren to my first football game of the year.
Lauren was dressed in a white t-shirt tied in the front with some jeans, an oversized letterman jacket on her shoulders that I was sure belonged to Evan. She had her makeup done with dark blue eyeshadow and white glitter on her face.
Lauren led us to the bleachers while the JV team finished up, the Varsity Football team playing next. The bleachers were actually starting to fill up, but Lauren and I managed to get a good spot pretty high up. I was more focused on the cheerleaders than the actual football game that was happening, watching them as they cheered and smiled while our team scored a point.
I had always wanted to be a highschool cheerleader, but Marco said it involved too much traveling. After our parents died, a lot of my dreams went out the window.
The JV game ended with our team winning 34 to 26, eveyone packing in for the Varsity game. The cheerleaders got to take a break and hang out along the edge of the track that lined the feild.
I watched as cheer captain Amanda began to lecture the other cheerleaders, suddenly very happy to not be in their shoes. Lauren was practically buzzing, excited to see Evan play for the first time. She had a large 14 drawn on her hand, Evan's jersey number.
It was adorable.
My eyes shifted back down to the track and to the cheerleaders, seeing Amanda leaning against the bar seperating the track from the bleachers. And there he was.
I had almost forgotten why I came before I saw him, dressed in all black with his arms crossed as he leaned against the bar, about 6 inches from Amanda.
A weird feeling rose in my stomach, probably guilt for thinking that Aiden had something for me when clearly he wanted the same thing that everyone else did. There was a large smile on Amanda's face as she twirled a blonde strand of hair between her fingers, biting her lip and looking up at Aiden. I wanted to puke.
I tore my eyes away from the two as the band began to play, signaling that the game was going to start soon. The cheerleaders got into their positions and the varsity football team came running out, Lauren and I standing up and cheering as loud as we could. After all, I had to support my best friend.
I tried not to think about Aiden and Amanda as the game went on. It made no sense for them to be together or be into each other. They were both far too bossy to be together, they would drive each other nuts. But Aiden didn't talk to anyone, he didn't want to be around me, but he seemed perfectly fine around Amanda.
I blocked out those thoughts and focused on the game, not moving once even as Lauren insisted we should get food to eat. I simply held our seats as Lauren got food and drinks for us, knowing I still wanted to carry out my parking lot plans.
Even if Aiden did like Amanda, he still very clearly was watching me, and I still planned to confront him.
