Aiden

I didn't say anything to any of the officers as I collected my belongings from the bin, feeling Marco's eyes on me.

I walked out of the police station with Marco's hand on my shoulder, guiding me to his car outside.

The two of us got in, not saying a word. He started the car and began to drive, eyes exclusively on the road.

"Thank you." I said, looking over at him. "For bailing me out."

"We need to talk." Marco said, eyes still on the road.

God this was going to be awkward.

"About Maria?" I asked, now looking at the road.

"Yeah, about my sister." Marco's tone was flat, and I knew this was awkward for him too.

"Look I didn't mean to develop feelings for her Marco, I swear. I was just trying to do my job, and it happened."

"Aiden, it's hard to approve when I know your past. What happens if someone comes after you? If they try to recruit you again?" Marco asked, finally glancing over at me.

"Then i'll take care of it, Maria will be left out of it. I swear. I know you don't approve of her having a boyfriend in general, but I will protect her with my life Marco." I said, meaning every word. "And this way she can be happy and protected, you would be breaking her heart if you took me out of the picture."

"She loves you too then?" Marco asked, sighing.

"I don't know yet, but I know she wants me in her life. I've saved her before, time and time again. I would never let anything happen to her."

"You're my best friend you know." Marco reminded me, eyes on me as we stopped at a red light. "If you guys break up, that's not exactly an easy situation."

"If Maria breaks up with me then we'll end on good terms." I said, shrugging.

"Don't hurt her." Marco said, voice becoming stern. "Please. She doesn't need that."

"I won't, I promise."

"I have some house rules." Marco warned, smiling slightly. I'm sure he was enjoying the power.

"Let's hear them." I leaned back in the seat, crossing my arms.

"You still have your bodyguard duties, I want you with her whenever i'm not home."

"Alright." I nodded, planning on doing that anyway.

"Number two, be modest. That's fine if you want to do couple stuff around me, but I will projectile vomit if I walk downstairs and you guys are making out."

I laughed, nodding. "Fair enough. If I smack her butt in front of you does that count as modest?"

"I will throw you out of this car right now." Marco said, eyes livid.

I laughed hard, leaning against the car door. "I'm sorry, all jokes man. I have to, it's your sister."

"Don't remind me." Marco threatened, glaring at me. "Your lucky, if it were anyone else they would be on the street."

"I know." I grinned, knowing these rules might not even be necessary. I had no idea if Maria wanted to be with me.

"Third rule, you will be present for all the holidays and you will never show up without a gift for her. You will be a good boyfriend."

"Of course."

"And finally, I know how you are about... sex. Given what you went through. But Maria is a teenager, so just let her down easy."

The thought of having sex with Maria had never popped into my mind before. I didn't want her for those reasons, and I wasn't sure if she would want that either.

But now that I thought about it, I wasn't sure if I didn't want it. I guess I had just never thought about it before, but the thought wasn't unpleasant.

But if my mind didn't control itself I was going to have a very noticeable and uncomfortable issue.

"Alright." I nodded. "Is that all?"

"I'll kill you if you hurt her." Marco said, warning me again.

I laughed. "I know I know, you don't have to worry."

He truly didn't, I loved Maria with everything I had. And this car ride was going by painfully slow. I needed to see her, to be with her.

And I needed to finally know what's going to happen between us.
