"Love doesn't mean anything if you're not willing to make a commitment, and you have to think not only about what you want, but about what he wants.
JYOTHIKA
"Do you still think, it's a good idea to be here?"
I asked the secret planner of this whole trip-my ammu. She sighed in boredom, from my continuous demand for assurance. We were on the outskirts of my village waiting for Appa and my elder brothers to pick us up.
After Prithvi confirmed with Doctor for the fiftieth time about Dadi's health, he agreed to her stay with Bua Dadi's family in Jaipur. Once satisfied with the completion of the plan's first phase, all the dadis ganged upon him to convince him about the Kerala trip. I never knew Prithvi could be so stubborn and could throw so many tantrums in any matter.
Dadi ji has to threaten him that she'd permanently stay with Bua dadi if he didn't agree with their demand. He finally said yes- grumping for days to leave behind children in the competition. Goddess, I was slightly nervous that if our children would inherit his trait, I would be in for a lifetime war!
Throughout the debate, I stayed out. Pretending that his accusing glares weren't on me. I knew his work might suffer a little but I was also selfish to spend some quality time with him. And what could compete in front of Kerala's heavenly scenery? I was biased toward my hometown, whatever.
"For the tenth time, yes! It was the most important agenda on my list," she caressed my hand, affectionately looking at Prithvi. "Jyothi, you may have some repercussions about your family but you have to understand Prithvi needs this visit. Earlier, he was mistreated and disrespected in every possible way by everyone and he was bound to have despairing memories. So this visit might be the first step to forming a bridge between him and our family. And he was a stranger before, now he is Nair's son-in-law. He is going to be respected as such, I'll make sure of it,"
I shift my gaze to Prithvi. He was away from us, pacing with his phone call. Ammu pointed out that it was also the exact spot where she found him looking helpless and defeated once he was evicted by Appa's men. My heart clenches as hurtful memories flash in my mind. The way I abandoned him, said all the hurtful words he would have never imagined from me.
Ammu was right. This visit was an essential chance to become a balm on past wounds. I was the reason to bring all those bad memories, I'd gift him the most beautiful memories.
"For how long are we supposed to stand in this sun, Bala?"
That annoying voice was the reminder that happy moments don't come easily.
Feeling a throbbing pain in my hand- not because I was hurt somewhere, I had to clench my hands to stop myself from snapping as the evil couple also decided to make the trip with us. Gayu wanted to meet her dear husband's family. Being an obedient husband, he couldn't deny her request. Lovely timing.
"Just for a few minutes, Baby. They are almost here. My wife should receive the best welcome!" he announces with an arrogant smirk.
Gayu in a simple white flower printed a long frock and smiled at him adjusting her hat. Why do her interactions with him seem so robotic? I shouldn't care. I wasn't going to let these two hurdles tamper my plans with Prithvi. Before, I didn't know the tactics of my enemy, but now I was ready. Eyes on my precious price and rest all could go to the trash.
He smiles in obsessiveness as the vehicles roll down the path and about three jeeps, and two Mercedes stop at his sign.
'Where is my family, yaar!'
Even if Prithvi doesn't pay attention to all these attention-seeking things still I want him to experience the best moments. Nothing less than that.
Gayu moves to our side, smiling sweetly, "Ammumma, you can come with us. Even you and Prithvi can join us,"
