Marcus
My eyes never left the man before me as his icy blue eyes scanned over my resume. His face held and unreadable expression leaving me confused on whither he was impressed, or not."So what happened between the years of 2018 unto now?" He asked, placing my resume on the desk in front of him.
Clearing my throat I sat up some in the seat. "I was incarcerated."
Nodding his head, the legs of his chair scratched against the title floor as he pushed his seat back before standing to his feet. "If were still interested we'll give you a call." He spoke reaching his pale hand out for me to shake.
My mind went to things that i could do to this man, but those actions would take me back to where i just came from. Shaking the thoughts from my head. I responded with the same goofy smile he was giving me as i placed my hand in his.
I know I wasn't getting this job.
"Thank you for your time."
I made my way out of his office into the cold spring air and into the car as i slid behind the wheel making my way home.
I was upset that this interview most likely wasn't going to be the job to call me back. The pay was good, benefits and close to home. But because of my criminal record i was being looked over.
Feeling my phone vibrate i grabbed it from my pocket seeing Aris calling. Looking at the time on the dashboard it was noon, her lunch break.
Sliding my finger across the screen I accepted the call. "Hello?"
"Hi baby." She cheerfully greeted making me smile at the sound of her voice.
"Hey beautiful."
"I was on my lunch and i just wanted to call to see how your interviews went today, any luck?"
Just as my lips parted to speak a beep on the other end stopped me from telling her the truth which I was thankful for. Pulling the phone up from the cup holder my moms name slid across the screen.
"Aye bae this my moms, lemme hit you back is that coo?"
"Yeah thats fine, we can just talk about it when i get off work. Don't forget to pick me up Marcus and tell your mother I said hello."
"Okay baby, and i wont forget love you."
"Love you too."
I released a sigh of relief as i clicked over to take my moms call. "Yoo"
"Wasup son."Danielle greeted, just by how her words fell i could tell that she was smiling on the other end of the phone.
"Nothin, just leavin this interview."
"Oh really? How'd it go?"
"Man ma, i been to three interviews today, nobody trying to hire a man with a record."
Silence filled the phone before ma released a small sigh. "Its not like your a murder or thief you made your mistakes and you dealt with the consequences i really hate you have to go through this."
