"Move, motherfuckers!" Sergeant Charlotte shouted.
"I'll protect you, Sergeant Charlotte!" Shaun shouted, running first before us.
"..." Sergeant Charlotte sighed, walking rather relaxed. We then followed them right after.
The sound of gunshots became much louder as we got closer and closer to it, battle cries of both armies started to become more depictable in my ears. We all ran into one of the pit holes, about three feet deep, stretching fifty meters or so. With stacked-up sacks filled with dirt for cover. Several wounded soldiers who called for backup were on it.
"Finally!" Someone shouted. "For fuck's sake!"
"What's the current status?" Sergeant Charlotte asked one of the wounded soldiers near us.
"They started attacking around eight in the morning, It's currently ten.... It's been 2 fucking hours..." One of them answered. "...But it's surprising that it's a light attack compared to yesterday."
"...?"
Did he just say this is a 'light attack'?
Conflicts between countries, I don't understand them...
"I am very sorry for the late backup!" Sergeant Charlotte yelled, hoping for everyone at the pit hole to hear her. "Fifth squad reporting in!"
I didn't know until now we were the fifth squad....
Sergeant Charlotte began firing at the other side. "Fire!" she shouted at the top of her lungs.
Shaun on the other hand was firing since a while ago. "For love!" he shouted multiple times.
Ken started to fire his rifle in an uncontrolled manner after hearing the rest shouting. "Suck a dick you fucking three-lettered country! Suck three million... No! Ten million dicks!" he shouted, laughing hysterically.
"...?"
Let's set the 'dick' part for a moment... Why is there a specific amount of it...?
Luna, just beside me, was sitting holding her rifle tightly. Heavily breathing while trembling. I can't see her face clearly since she was crouching, burying her face in between her crossed arms.
I leaned towards her. "What are you doing, Luna?" I asked.
She ignored me. "Hehehe~" I heard her giggling. "Those screams... Mhmmm~ Hehehe~" she moaned silently.
"..."
She's just the usual...
I think leaving her alone is the right choice here, yes...
The wounded soldiers who came before us started retreating for the medic to treat them, leaving us, Sergeant Charlotte's squad with other soldiers who refuse to stand back and continued to fire their guns till they emptied them.
"Hey, machine!" Ken shouted, looking at me. "What the fuck are you doing there dilly-dallying?! Use your gun not your fucking eyes!"
"...!" I didn't notice I was lost in thoughts. "...Understood," I replied.
"And please, use both of your hands while aiming you fucker!" As I was getting ready to aim, Ken shouted again. "You'll freak out the others!"
"..."
Oh, right. I forgot about that...
I aimed, properly with both of my arms, firing my gun at anyone I see on the other side, not leaving them until I see them on the ground. Pressing the trigger without pausing, I realized that this was the first time I took someone's life, something humans cling to that is not even unique to every one of them. I thought to myself - Am I worthy to take responsibility for another existence? Or the right to take away it like it was nothing with this body of mine that can't even feel empathy nor emotions in general? If I'm a normal human being, can I able to take someone's life with just orders alone?
