I saluted General Roger before leaving the tent to which he responded with a deep sigh. I then carried on to walk outside to proceed with this 'important mission' that he entrusted to me. An 'important errand' rather. He said to start from my squad by asking them what are their reasons for joining the military. It's like he's expecting a spy to admit they're one if I asked them straight up. I do think they, or anyone in the camp in general, have the option to tell me or not the real reason why they are in the military - They can either tell me the truth or lie to escape my question.
Humans lie to live. It is in their nature to do so for them to live. And it isn't a stretch to say that lying is relevant to a human for them to actually experience life. I, a machine who can't experience what you call 'life', for example, can't do as simple as 'lying' without someone ordering me to, I also can't comprehend why I must do so.
Even though I don't truly understand why humans do 'that' nor the reason they do 'it', I think it's common knowledge, even coming from someone not human like me, to think they are all like that. Or perhaps this was inputted into my data for me to think they are. Then if so, why did Mr. Aaron build me this way?
Myself, I don't understand it...
Well, either way – A mission is a mission, may it be just an errand from General Roger's perspective, but he still entrusted me with it. I've got no reason not to oblige.
After walking a couple of steps outside to search for someone to ask, I saw Sergeant Charlotte in my peripheral vision. "Sergeant Charlotte, why did you join the military? I asked straight away, walking closer to her.
"Huh? Isn't that obvious?" she replied, not even pausing her walk. "What do you think humans need in order to survive?"
"I don't -"
"Yes, money."
"I didn't say -"
"Who in the fuck works just for fun?!" she exclaimed, ignoring me.
"...Maybe people who are passionate about their jobs?" I said, unsure.
"Fuck them! Just how much money do people earn just to say those fucking words..."
"..."
She then walks away, flouncing. "Oh~ I love this job~ I wish I can work here forever~," she said, somewhat imitating those people who are passionate about their jobs. "Fuck you and fuck your privilege asses!" she then exclaimed, pointing out both of her middle fingers up in the skies.
"..."
A bad start...? Or perhaps I asked the wrong person? But I somewhat understand what she was trying to point out. Money is another thing that humans can't live without. In this time and age, you can't get what you want without money, and we all know without a doubt that's common knowledge. I, too, won't be here without money. And it's not likely possible that Mr. Aaron picked my parts in the sea just floating around and build me with his bare hands. And who would even pick up some scraps of metal in the sea and decides to make a robot out of it in the first place...?
Back to the 'mission'...
I went to the tent where the soldiers are eating breakfast. As soon as I entered, I saw Shaun at the near table sitting beside Luna so I approached them. "Can I sit beside you?" I asked.
"Absolutely no -"
"Sure," Luna cut Shaun off, smiling brightly at me. "Go ahead."
"Hey Lunatic, I said -"
Luna, without hesitation, stabbed the table with a knife near where Shaun's right hand was resting at. "What? I can't hear you~," she said, still wearing a bright smile on her face, looking at Shaun.
