After his cry,. and Crane leaving the scene with his goons, Dick ran to Zoya's side and held her in his arms. His hand involuntarily went to her the side of her chest, were she was shot.
"Hey-Hey. You're gonna be okay, alright? We'll take you to the pit, okay?" He whispers to her in attempt to comfort her, drawing her attention away from the pain.
"N-no." She chokes, blood was dripping down from her mouth.
"Don't be stubborn." He says harshly to her as he tries to carry her again but he was stopped by her hand, gripping his arm with whatever strength she has left in her.
"It won't work." she whispers.
His heart dropped." W-what?"
No. . she can't mean. . .
"The pit. . . it can only be used once . . ."
It was worse than he could imagined. "No. No no no."
He was going to lose her.
"Dick. You are not an idiot. . .you know this."
His breath began to be uneven as a silent sob was beginning to escape his lips. He stutters. "I-I can't lose you, too."
"Despite her pain, her mouth quirked the smallest smile that even the heavens would be jealous to have. A smile that sent his heart beating for miles by its smallest form.
"You won't. . . You'll never lose me."
She then moves her hand to the back of his head and pulls him down enough until her mouth touches his ear, whispering to him so softly.
When she was done, Dick closed his eyes tightly before looking down at her with such longing, but loyalty.
"I promise. . . I promise."
"You know. . . I always think back. . . at the cabin. . ."
The cabin where Bruce brings him to train. The cabin where Dick took her for when they needed an escape right before she went away to meet with her sister, Talia, for a couple of months.
"If only we stayed there longer. . ."
Dick holds her close.
She whispers again. "Don't let this ruin you, Ricky. . . You're stronger than that. . . I know it."
