The Rematch

Thomas has entered the Rustboro gym. He challenges Roxanne for a gym battle. But Thomas loses to Roxanne. As Thomas leaves the gym he sees Kyle. Thomas calls out to Kyle. Kyle looks around to find Thomas.

Thomas: Hi Kyle! Are you here to challenge Roxanne?

Kyle: Nope, but I am here to challenge you.

Thomas: I should go to the Pokémon Center to heal my Pokémon.

Kyle: Seems like you have lost the battle. I might have lost the previous time but I won't lose this time. I have trained harder.

Thomas: I shall test your skills after I go to the Pokémon Center. We will meet in the Pokémon school.

Kyle: Okay! I think that is a good place for a rematch. See you there!

Their battle begins. Kyle chooses his Treecko. Thomas enlarges his Pokeball and throws the Pokeball choosing Tailow. He snickers Kyle.

Thomas: I have an advantage over your Pokemon.

Kyle: My training will help me. Treecko, Bullet seed.

Treecko spits seeds at Tailow at high velocity. Tailow gets struck by the seeds.

Thomas: Wing attack!

Tailow's wings glow white. It strikes Treecko with great force. Treecko falls to the ground. Thomas calls out to use peck. Treecko evades the attack. Kyle calls out to use pound. Treecko whips Tailow with its tail. Tailow is sent away. Treecko uses bullet seed. Tailow tries to evade the attack but Treecko simultaneously spits seeds and hits Tailow.

Thomas: Your Treecko's accuracy skills have risen.

Kyle: Thank you for the compliment.

Thomas: Come on Taliow, Quick attack!

Tailow dives down and tackles Treecko at a fast speed. Treecko is sent away. Kyle cheers on for Treecko. Treecko stands up to use pound. Treecko hops and slams into Tailow. Tailow is hit hard and faints.

Thomas: I lost! You were right, you have trained your Pokemon.

Kyle: I knew I had won this time.

Thomas: What are you going to do next?

Kyle: I am not sure. Maybe I have to challenge Roxanne.

Thomas: Your Treecko can surely take down at least one of her Pokemon.

Kyle: But I am not sure about that! I will challenge her once I am ready! I feel the need for more training.

Thomas: Since we both are beginners, what about traveling together?

Kyle: I never thought of a traveling companion but I think that is a good idea. If we travel together we can train together and challenge the gym leaders together.

Thomas: We'd be a good team, Kyle! Now, let me go to the Pokemon Center.

Thomas leaves for the Pokemon Center leaving Kyle back in the Pokemon School. Kyle feels a hand on his shoulders. He turns back to see an old man.

Kyle: How can I help you?

The man doesn't reply and moves without saying a word. He looked quite serious and old. Kyle walks out of the battlefield in the Pokemon school and heads for the Pokemon Center. As he walks towards the Pokemon Center, he notices Thomas approaching him and stops. Thomas runs and stops as he reaches Kyle. He places his hand on Kyle's shoulders and inhales air as he is tired from running.

Thomas: I'm going to catch a new Pokemon. Would you join me?

Kyle: Sure!

Kyle and Thomas stroll through Petalburg Woods looking for a Pokemon. Thomas shares his experience battling Roxanne with Kyle. Kyle spots a Wurmple. As he approaches it, it goes away.

Thomas: Is this how you catch Pokemon? Don't you check about the Pokemon using your Pokedex?

Kyle: Why do I have to do that? It is about simply throwing the Pokeball on the Pokemon and then you catch it, right?

Thomas: You are wrong. If the Pokemon is weak, you need not battle it. You can simply throw the Pokeball on it. But I'd battle the Pokemon and then catch it. It helps me know about the strength of the Pokemon. It is important to know about your Pokemon. The Pokedex gives you information about Pokemon.

Kyle: How do I use the Pokedex, Thomas?

Thomas: You have to point the Pokedex towards the Pokemon to know about it.

Kyle: Lemme try with a Pokemon.

Kyle looks for another Pokemon. He looks forth and back. He notices a Tailow. He stretches his arm to reveal the Pokedex. He points it towards the Tailow.

"Tailow: Tiny Swallow Pokemon. It courageously stands its grounds against its foes, however strong they may be. This Pokemon will stay defiant even after a loss. On the other hand, it cries loudly if its hungry."

Kyle: That's something I already know about Tailow.

Thomas: Won't you catch it?

Kyle: No, because you have a Tailow! I want to catch a Pokemon that you do not own.

Thomas: Looks like you want to have a unique party of Pokemon.

Kyle: Yeah, you're right! I wanted to ask if you have got a Pokemon other than Tailow.

Thomas: I have a Mudkip in my party.

Kyle: What type is it?

Thomas: Mudkip is a water type Pokemon.

They hear the growl of a Pokemon somewhere in the wild. Kyle and Thomas walk towards the direction of the noise. Amidst the bushes, they see a trainer who wears a jacket that resembles Kyle's jacket.
