The trainer had his Pokemon side by side - a formidable Charmeleon, a soaring Fletchinder and a powerful Electabuzz. The trainer instantly caught Kyle and Thomas' attention. Curiosity got the better of Kyle and Thomas. Kyle and Thomas approached the trainer to communicate with him. 

 Kyle: Hello there!

 The trainer looks at Kyle. He appears to be training his Pokemon. The trainer introduces himself as Jack. 

 Thomas: Hello Jack! You seem to have a well-trained party of Pokemon. 

 Jack: Thank you, man.

 Kyle: My name is Kyle and this is Thomas. Your jacket looks similar to that of mine.

 Jack observes Kyle's jacket. 

 Jack: Yeah, your jacket is as cool as mine. 

 Thomas: Did you look at his Pokemon, Kyle?

 Kyle: Yeah, it looks mighty and unfamiliar. Let me check this Pokemon. 

 Kyle stretches his arm, revealing the Pokedex. 

 "Charmeleon: The Flame Pokemon. Charmeleon mercilessly destroys its foes using its sharp claws. If it encounters a strong foe, it turns aggressive. In this excited state, the flame at the tip of its tail flares with a bluish-white color." 

 "Fletchinder: The Ember Pokemon. From its beak, it expels embers that set the tall grass on fire. Then it pounces on the bewildered prey that pops out of the grass."

 "Electabuzz: The Electric Pokemon. When a storm arrives, gangs of this Pokemon compete with each other to scale heights that are likely to be stricken by lightning bolts. Some towns use Electrabuzz in place of lightning rods."

 Kyle: That's some informative information.

 Thomas: Looks like you have been training your Pokemon for days. Do you practice to challenge Roxanne? 

 Jack: I think you're mistaken. To challenge Roxanne is of no use. I look on to something priceless. Roxanne's Pokemon can be easily beatable. Have you ever heard of the legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh? I want to test my skills before Ho-Oh's might!

 Thomas gasps. Kyle wonders what kind of Pokemon is Ho-Oh. Kyle asks about Ho-Oh to Thomas, who explains about the Pokemon.

 Kyle: What? Jack is to battle a legendary Pokemon! Is it true, Jack? 

 Jack: Yeah! I heard that Ho-Oh is to appear somewhere in Petalburg Woods.

 Thomas: I don't think that you can win Ho-Oh.

 Jack: You can't judge me! 

 A dazzling burst of light illuminated the darkening evening sky. As fate would have it, there it was -Ho-Oh, soaring gracefully with its vibrant feathers leaving a trail behind. 

 Jack: My predictions were correct! 

 Jack catches Ho-Oh's attention with Charmeleon's fiery flamethrower. Ho-Oh gracefully lands on the ground. Jack faces Ho-Oh with his most trusted ally, Charmeleon. He withdraws all of his other Pokemon. 

 Jack: Are you ready for this, buddy?

 Charmeleon growls, expressing its will to fight. Jack's Charmeleon makes the first move. Charmeleon uses flamethrower, releasing a stream of fire from its mouth at Ho-Oh. Ho-Oh uses flamethrower back at Charmeleon. Flames collided with the gusts of the wind. Ho-Oh uses its move before Charmeleon can do anything. Its next move filled the woods with illumination - Sacred Fire. Ho-Oh releases a magnificent gold-rose-coloured flame from its beak. This move soaked Charmeleon in fire. Even with Charmeleon's undying determination, Charmeleon couldn't stand but faint. 

 Victory eluded Jack. Ho-Oh spread its wings, preparing to soar away. Jack and his Charmeleon are left hurt and disheartened. Moved by Jack's struggle, Kyle and Thomas reach out to a Pokemon Center with Jack and his Pokemon. The nurse Joy in the Pokemon Center calls a well-renowned doctor to cure Jack's wounds that he got from falling to the ground. He could have left a considerable space between him and Ho-Oh. The doctor provided Jack with all the required medical attention. Jack and his Pokemon abruptly gained health. Kyle and Thomas noticed the absence of gratitude in him. He left the Pokemon Center, without uttering a word of gratitude to Kyle, Thomas, the doctor and Nurse Joy. 

 Kyle: Hey Jack!

 Kyle shouts, calling Jack. Jack turns back to see Kyle.

 Kyle: What was that about? We helped you! You show no gratitude to us. I couldn't understand why you were so focused on beating Ho-Oh. 

 Jack: I don't have to talk to you, Kyle. 

 Perplexed by Jack's behaviour, Kyle and Thomas lingered, contemplating what they just witnessed. They have never encountered anyone like Jack, who was so focused on his goal. Kyle and Thomas rest in a cottage back in Rustboro City. Kyle couldn't stop contemplating Jack's behaviour. He somehow convinces himself to sleep and soon forgets about his encounter with Jack falling asleep.
