As Kyle walked through the dense forest, He couldn't help but replay the argument with Thomas in mind. He trusted in Thomas' judgment and now regrets it. However, his determination to reveal Jack the truth remains unaltered. Meanwhile, in the city, Thomas wanders, hoping to find Matty to tell him that Thomas has quit the mission. He tries to shake off negative thoughts from his mind. Thomas recalls the orb. He goes to a Pokemon Center. Thomas takes off his bag and places it on a table. He unzipped the pocket where he kept the orb. As he half-opened the top to look, the glow from the orb illuminated his face. It makes him recall Team Rocket chasing him and Kyle for the orb. He closes the bag.
As Kyle wanders in the forest, he encounters a wounded Houndoom beneath a tree. Kyle consults his Pokedex to learn about Houndoom. Kyle looks at the Houndoom. Its fur is matted with dirt. Kyle approaches the hurt Houndoom. A figure emerges from the bushes. Kyle turns to see the figure. A boy with a backpack stands before him. The boy looks at Kyle.
Mike: Hello! I think your Houndoom is hurt!
Kyle: It is not mine. This Houndoom is a wild one.
Mike: The Houndoom is hurt. Let me look.
The boy takes out a potion from his bag. The boy kneels and uses the potion to heal the Houndoom.
Kyle: I think it's working!
Mike: It has to. By the way, my name is Mike.
Kyle: Oh, my name is Kyle. Thanks for helping the Houndoom.
Mike: It's my pleasure. Can you tell me the route to Goldenrod City?
Kyle explains the route to the city to Mike. Kyle looks at the Houndoom.
Kyle: I think it's okay for now. Should I take it to a Pokemon Center?
Mike: All it needs is rest. This forest is not a good place for rest.
Kyle: I get it. So we must take it to a Pokemon Center.
Kyle and Mike carefully take the Houndoom to the nearest Pokemon Center in Goldenrod City. Nurse Joy treats the hurt Houndoom. Kyle talks about his journey to Goldenrod City and his mission.
Mike: No way! Matty sent you, too?
Kyle: Yeah, he did!
Mike: Matty sent me too.
Kyle thinks that Matty has sent Matty to replace Thomas.
Kyle: I am glad you are here too! We should start right away!
Mike: Start what?
Kyle: Start looking for Jack.
Mike: I am here to see the possible threat for Lugia from Team Rocket.
Kyle consults his Pokedex to learn about Lugia.
Kyle: Were you successful in learning their motives?
Mike: I visited the island where Lugia dwells. There were no signs of Team Rocket there. Matty told me he is in Goldenrod City. On my way, I saw a helicopter over the forest edge. Jack might be there.
Kyle: We have no more time to waste! Let's find them before they leave.
Kyle teams up with Mike. The duo decide to find Jack before he leaves. Nurse Joy calls out to Kyle to inform the Houndoom is good now. The Houndoom nuzzles against Kyle, affectionately rubbing its head against his leg.
Nurse Joy: It is grateful for you!
Kyle: I can see you are all right, buddy.
Mike: Go ahead, Kyle! Catch the Houndoom. I am sure the Houndoom would like to travel with you.
Kyle: Would you like to join my party?
The Houndoom gives out a high-pitched bark, expressing its will. Kyle takes out a Pokeball, aiming at Houndoom. With a flash of light, the Houndoom disappears into the Pokeball.
Kyle: I have got a new pal. Let's go, Mike.
Mike and Kyle leave for Ilex forest's edge. Meanwhile, Thomas wanders the city, hoping to meet Matty. Thomas feels a palm on his back. He turns back to see a tall boy with a Sneasel behind him.
Axel: I'm sure you wouldn't know me.
Thomas: Indeed, I do not know you.
Axel: I am Axel. I was the one who gave you the indigo orb.
Thomas: Why did you give me the orb?
Axel: I am one of Matty's partners. He told me about two new guys on the team. They were you and Kyle. Matty sent me your pictures via letter.
Thomas: How did Matty get my pictures?
Axel: Professor Birch gave the pictures to Matty. I was in Mt.Silver examining a new specimen, the indigo orb. Since its possession, Team Rocket had been chasing me for the orb. I saw you in Ilex forest. I sent my Sneasel to deliver the orb to you.
Thomas: Does that mean that I am not the chosen one? (sighs)I believed that a legendary dog left the orb in my possession.
Axel: You shouldn't have had expectations.
Thomas: You could have given me in person.
Axel: I wanted to give a tinge of suspense.
