Maryanne hasn't seen mickey or Ian for a week. She's so worried that they'll be angry at her. And the girl knows, if she lies again, her Foster parents will never believe it. But now, she was colouring in with Jackie at the table as they waited for Paul to get home
"Evening. There are my two favourite girls" he says kissing Jackie and high fiving maryanne. There was a boy behind Paul, running to give Jackie a hug. Maryanne watched in confusion
"What are you doing back?" Jackie asks in shock
"I dropped out. I'm sorry I shouldve told you. But I'm not suited for collage and I feel terrible but-"
"Hey hey. That's OK. It isn't for everybody. I wish you'd told me but you're here now" Jackie says
"Maryanne, this is our son, Luke. And Luke, this is the adorable little girl we told you about, Maryanne" Paul introduces
"It's a pleasure to meet you Mary" luke greets
"It's maryanne. Mary is my mummy" maryanne tells him
"My apologies" he smiles as does maryanne.
A little while later, Maryanne is lay in her bed about to fall asleep when Luke walks in
"Hi Luke" she says
"Let's get one thing straight. This, is my house. OK? You're only here because they missed having a kid around when I left for collage. But I'm back now. I give it 3 weeks tops before you're booted out of here"
"But I never-" but is interrupted
"Sshh. Let's not argue now. Its for our parents to decide who they love more. It can only be one of us. And let's be real, you're not even their adopted kid. I'm biological. For now, just get some sleep" luke sits on the bed rubbing her thigh under the covers as maryanne tries to get away but he just grips her harder, leaving bruises. He sits at the end of her bed, waiting for her to fall asleep. But she doesn't. Maryanne stays awake all night just hoping he would leave, terrified of what he may do if she sleeps.
The next day, it was as if it had never happened. Luke went to to find a job as Paul went to work and it was just Maryanne and Jackie
"Jackie. Can I tell you something"
"Of course sweetheart. I'm always here to listen" Jackie says
"I don't want luke to live here"
"Ha. Oh darling, I know he can he a pain in the ass. But you'll get used to him and his slobbishness" Jackie laughs
"No. Its not like that. He was in my room last night. He hurt me" maryanne says with tears in her eyes
"Oh. Erm...where?" Maryanne lifts her skirt up abit and shows the bruises on her thigh
"Oh you poor girl. I'll speak to him i promise" Jackie says kissing maryannes head making her feel alot better
But nothing changed. Instead, it was the same every single night. Maryanne got to the point of sleeping during the day so she could be alert at night. Jackie stopped helping when maryanne told her what happened. She just refused to acknowledge it. And Paul laughed in her face, claiming they'd raised their son to be a gentleman. They thought maryanne was being dramatic
This went on for another 2 weeks. Until one day, it was just maryanne and luke in the house
"Please don't leave me with him" she begged. Jackie looked hesitant but Paul pulled her away
"I'm sorry maryanne. We'll be back soon" Jackie says. When the door is closed, luke laughs and walks closer to maryanne
"I want my mummy" she cries
"Aw. Boohoo. Cry me a river" he chuckles. The next thing maryanne knew, she was being held down on the kitchen worktop as she cried and cried. She yelled for help until her voice was almost gone. I'm sure you don't want me as the narrator to go into much detail about this horrific event.
Maryanne managed to reach for a knife, and stabbed luke in the shoulder as he fell to the floor. She didn't take a second to look at him before running out the house and to the Gallaghers. She banged on the door over and over
"Alright I'm coming jesus" a voice said from inside. When it opened, there was a woman with dark brown hair. Maryanne ran inside past the woman. There were alot of people sat in the kitchen, two of which included mickey and ian. She ran over to Ian and sobbed into his shoulder as he lifted her up
"Sshh...its OK. Its alright" Ian said standing up and taking her upstairs away from everyone. Mickey followed. She sat on the bed and clung onto Ian, refusing to let go. Her whole body was shaking and her breathing was uneven
"Maryanne look at me. In through your nose, and out through your mouth" Ian advised doing it with her until her breathing was steady and all that was left was her tears and hiccups
"Do you want to tell us what's wrong?" He asked
"I think I killed him" she cried
"You killed someone? Who?" Mickey asked
"I didn't mean to. I promise. He was hurting me and...and he kept trying to touch me and he was too strong and I couldn't stop him and-"
"Just breathe maryanne. Thats it good girl. Its OK. This person you killed, did he touch you?" She nodded her head
"Are you sure he's dead?" Ian asks
"I stabbed his shoulder and ran. Am I going to prison?" Maryanne asks
"No no of course not. You did the right thing. You are so brave" Ian lifted her up and hugged her as mickey ran downstairs to call the police. Soon an officer came round and took a statement from maryanne as she stayed with mickey and ian, refusing to speak unless they were there
"Thank you for telling us maryanne. I don't want you to worry. You didn't kill anybody. He is in hospital right now and you won't have to go near him again. We're going to rehouse you so you aren't with Jackie and Paul. We've found a Foster family for the night until we find a more permanent setting" the officer says
"We'll fucking Foster her" mickey says
"I'm afraid it doesn't work like that. You need all the paper work and-"
"OK. So for now she goes to a Foster home. But if we get the paper work and we get an apartment so she has her own room, then will you let us Foster her?" Ian asks
"Yes. Since you already know her and she wants to be with you, I promise, you will be top of the list" the officer says as another person lifts maryanne off ians lap. It breaks their hearts as she cries for them
"No! No don't let them take me. I wanna stay with you. I'll be good I promise. Please" she sobs as they drag her outside
"Maryanne, I promise you, we will bring you home. I promise" Ian says
"Fuck this" mickey starts fighting the officers to get to maryanne but its no use. She's put into a car and taken away
