Chapter 26

A month had past and sadly we hadn't herd anything about Elijah. Connor and I had gone back to work. With him work one shift and I the other. We hated not being able to work together like we had but I didn't feel ready to leave Maverick with someone.

"BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!" I rolled over turning off my alarm and slowly getting up it was time to wake up Maverick from his nap and me to get ready for work. I work night shift today and I was so tired. I walk to my closet and grab my scrubs and head to the bathroom to get ready. I put my hair in a messy bun and then put some makeup on. As I was walking out of my room I herd Maverick laughing and knew he was up. "Hello my sweet boy." I said in baby talk. He bounced harder as he was getting more excited. He raised his hands up for me to pick him up. I gently picked him up and walked us to the kitchen and made him some food. I looked at the clock and it was 3:00pm and I had a little time to spare. I grabbed his things and headed to the car and put him in and then gave him his toys to play with. Then made my way to the driver side to leave.

I pull into the hospital and parked. It was busy and lots of people were going in and out. We made our way in and I see Maggie looking at the rooms on the computer and then talking to Dr.Choi. "Hello." I said Maggie smiled and then Natalie came over and greeted Maverick. "Man your getting so big." She says plucking him up. "You leaving?" I asked her as she was out of her scrubs. "Yeah, just finished." I smiled at Maverick baby talk and then said "da-da" as Connor was walking up to us. Maverick held his hands out for Connor to grab him and hold. I placed my hand on his had and kissed him and then kissed Connor bye.

The night was busy with three accidents, four people coming with food poisoning and a couple of people who had gotten into bar fights. I was sitting at the desk looking over charts and adding some thing when I noticed the date. It had hit me that Elijah and Mavericks birthday is in two months. They will be turning a year old. I still couldn't believe we haven't found my baby. I still had no idea where he was and I have to go around and act like nothing is wrong. But there is, my son is missing. The woman who knows where he is won't tell us and we will have to celebrate a birthday with only one son.

"Lily, we have a stabbing coming in." I grab my things and then the ambulance shows up. Two other nurses run in and then one of the night doctor working runs to the patient. " Age 37 male with stab injuries to the upper torso, chest and hand. Patient declined pain medication." We wheeled him in and start put the monitoring machine on him and a IV. "I'm a ex addict no drugs." We all agree to by pass the pain medicine and then patch him up. He was then taken to X-ray to make sure no internal injuries.

My shift was over and it was 7 in the morning. Connor was off today so I was ready to spend the day with him. Will and Natalie walked into the hospital and then April came shortly after. I missed working with them but Connor and I had to split shifts. I said hi to them all and then made my way to the car. I put the keys in the ignition and then just sat in the car for a moment. "Ring, Ring,Ring." I grab my phone and looked at the number not recognizing it.
"Hello." The other end was silent for a moment then it was an automatic call from the jail. "Hello Lily." My heart stop and anger filled me I couldn't speak. "I know it's the boys birthday soon and I thought I would give you a little gift as well." I gritted my teeth and finally said "and what's that?" She laughed through the phone " Elijah is alive and well. Let's see how long it takes for you to find him. I'll give you a hint....he's still in the family." The call goes dead.

I felt relieved that she confirmed he was alive which I knew I could feel it. But I could figure out still in the family. I had to go to Jay and Adam. I had to get Elijah
