It was one day, when I was too near for her to discreetly progress with my new uniform, and she was spring-cleaning the quarters thoroughly when I first noticed it. I was in my quarters and writing the reasons for rejection to trade with Weselton (which when presented to John was ignored and he went on ahead and signed the agreement anyway). There was virtually silence apart from the footsteps of Elsa moving and the Arendelle ambient noises from outside. Then there was this sudden noise, it was singing. At first, thought that Anna had turned up at the door again so I peered out to see if she was standing there to shoo her off. But as I stuck my head out there was no trace of her. Puzzled, I listened a little more carefully to realise a deeper tone than Anna had ever sang. Knowing now that it wasn't Anna, I went out to the two ends of the hallway to see if there was a maid nearby singing into her mop. There was none. Also, as I left the quarters I detected that it got quieter. Through a process of elimination I rattled it down to the fact that it had to be Elsa singing. So I returned and closed the door behind me as I entered the room. I silently crept up to the archway and looked around to see what Elsa was up to. Sure enough, it was her singing away like a bird. I kept a low profile and listened in to the free entertainment before at the end beginning to clap. Throughout she had been polishing some silverware with her back turned to me, so the sudden clapping made her jump. She turned around in a vigorous manner while scowling and saying to me, "I didn't know that you were listening." I was a little shocked that she didn't realise that I could still hear her from the neighbouring room but I went on to say in response "What was all that and where did it come from?" Setting down the rag that she was holding she said, "I'm not too sure, I was just thinking over a few things and up came a rhyme and before I knew it, I had a song, and I was singing it." I felt the need to complement her as it was a masterpiece in five seconds, so I said "Well, it's great!" I said this to make it very clearly truthful. This inspired her to try and write down a few more songs, but this time forcing her mind to create them. Once she made more, after a couple of days of course, she started to sing them aloud. But they were never as good as the first one that came to her. They were still decent songs but as she set the highest standards for everything that she does, she regarded them as utter rubbish. As she tried over and over she began to get frustrated with herself and started to act as if she was setting in stone the foundations for a dark day. Feeling guilty that I had spurred on this frustration, I felt that it was my duty to say, "don't get angry over this, this is your talent, not a burden, sing what you feel when you feel it, don't force it out, that never works, but when it comes from the deep regions of your heart then it is guaranteed to be brilliant." Thankfully, she listened to my advice and never again wrote another lyric down onto paper, just sang a song when it came into her head. This would happen maybe two or three times a month. And the best thing was that I was right, it was all great. For once a crisis averted. I used to think that the Arendelle school choir was good at my time, but Elsa shamed them into the ground. Before you ask me for any words to that original song I have to say that I don't have any. Elsa could never remember any of her songs after she sang them so never once was there a lyric of even the best songs recorded. All I have is the tune that remains in my head.
