"I'm so happy for you evy." Jack expressed as he pressed his body up to my legs, hugging me tightly.
"Thank you birthday boy, hey have you seen jack anywhere?" I asked him jokingly as I shut the front door of the family house behind me.
"I'm jack silly!" He giggled innocently.
I fake gasped "No you aren't you're much too big for Jack! How have you grown that much since I last saw you?" I asked him smiling down.
He grinned widely "I am six now that's why! Come and see the cake evy!" He shrieked as I took my shoes off and followed him through to the kitchen where Susie, my dad, Rosa and Benedict were all sat.
"Evelyn!" Rosa squealed as she ran over, she's seventeen and my little best friend who isn't so little anymore.
"Hi Rosa." I smiled as she embraced me into a large hug, quickly wacking my arm as she did so "What's that all about?" I asked her rubbing my now sore arm.
"You are walking for Chanel! You signed with one of the hugest brands in the world! I had to find out online!" She squealed resulting in laughter from my end.
"I wasn't allowed to tell anyone, it's against policy." I held my hands up in defence as she rolled her eyes annoyed but deep down she was happy for me.
"We're very proud Evelyn, very proud of the change." My dad agreed as I ushered myself over to the table where everyone was sat.
Benedict nodded, our relationship was a little strained but he still credited me "well done."
I cut him off "Okay today is Jacks day, someone in this household is six today and we need to celebrate that."
"Yeah!" Jack replied sitting head of the table with his plate of cake in front of him, it was evident he was enjoying himself as the remainder of the cake crumbs were sprawled over his mouth.
How I had missed Monaco, the way the yachts came right into the harbour and how brightly the sun shone in the sky, "Jack we haven't even sang happy birthday yet." Susie told him as she acknowledged how the cake that was on his plate moments ago had disappeared.
"He's too cool for that now, all the six year olds are." Rosa commented as she also took a bite of her cake.
Despite Rosa, Benedict and I not being related to Susie by blood and Jack being only our half brother we never treated each other any differently.
"Did you enjoy the Australian Grand Prix Ev?" My dad asked as Jack ran off to grab one of his new toys.
I nodded "Yeah I missed it a lot, you know how much I love watching the cars on the track, I miss it a lot when I'm working. Seeing the guys was nice too."
"You don't race whilst working?" Susie asked kind of surprised.
"From time to time but the tracks globally have nothing on the Monaco track, nobody is willing to race me either so it gets a little tricky so it's usually with strangers." I admitted sticking my fork into the red velvet cake, what six year old chooses red velvet over chocolate?
Susie smiled, "You always had a real talent, you really could've gone places I'm telling you."
I smiled widely back at her, my dad coughed interrupting the conversation "Evelyn I don't want you racing in other countries if we aren't within an hour from you, you know that, and I know it's hard but stop associating so much with other teams it makes Mercedes look bad."
My dad treats the other teams as the enemy, publicly he comes across quite well in terms of friendless in the sport but at home anyone who wasn't Mercedes was someone to beat.
He didn't want me around better teams because he thought it would give Mercedes a reputation for being shit basically.
I shook my head "I don't know that."
"Ev you know damn well I don't like you driving normal cars let alone racing twenty strangers on the track." He asserted crossing his arms across his body, my dad was a very tall guy so when his arms were crossed he looked even more intimidating.
I chuckled sarcastically "But I was allowed to when I was three years old? You didn't have problems with me racing strangers then but you do now twenty years later?"
He lowered his voice "Evelyn you know why I don't want you racing, if you race again i have no problem with kicking you out of this house Evelyn mark my words."
"Kick me out? Really?" I asked him, not that I couldn't move out anyway in fact I probably should but it was a bit dramatic.
"Kicked from the house and the family." He sternly spoke, I didn't know the extent to which he was annoyed at me.
Shaking my head once more "Enlighten me, why's that?"
Benedict cut in, not being able to take the conversation anymore "Because you killed Lucy."
silence, the room went silent, that type of silence my thoughts are blank. I can't think of anything at all as Benedict keeps his eyes down on the table in front of him.
"Evy look at what mum and dad got me!" Jack came bounding into the kitchen with his own racing car helmet passing it over to me.
I gulped "Wow that's a really cool helmet, I love it, you've got to put it on for us!" I tried my best to act excited but the surrounding silence was still present.
It wasn't the helmet you'd assume it was, my little brother, the littlest Wolff wants to be an astronaut when he's older and you know what? I think he can do it, so naturally my dad and Susie bought him an astronaut helmet.
"See!" He exclaimed pushing up the visor for me to see his face, "Do you want to go and grab my bag for me Jack, if I remember correctly I think I have a birthday present in their for a certain someone."
He ran over down the hallway, Rosa looked at me her eyes wavering over mine as we tried to communicate silently, "I got it!" Jack exclaimed passing me my bag.
I opened it up and pulled out the present I had wrapped for Jack passing it over to him, "Thank you thank you thank you!" He repeated as he noticed that I'd given him his most requested present now.
Rosa tried to break the tension, "since you have the Chanel money rolling in I'm hoping for some better present giving for Christmas this year."
