"Why were you at karting yesterday?" My dad asked, clearly he'd seen the posts by the track online.
I lied to him, although it wasn't a full lie considering that was my intention "I went to watch the boys race."
"But you didn't race? You better not of." He threatened as we stood in the paddock, I shook my head but he wasn't buying it.
"Lewis did Evelyn race yesterday?" He called Lewis over to him as he put on his helmet, the Miami Grand Prix about to start in minutes.
Lewis looked over my face "No she just watched much to her disappointment I'm sure."
Phew, "See dad, I just watched." I told him as he nodded on before grabbing his headset so he could communicate with the boys whilst racing.
I mouthed a thank you to Lewis who just held his thumbs up in return, getting into the car himself.
"Jack who's your favourite driver?" I asked my little brother who was attending his first race of the season today as he sat on my lap watching the race on the big screen in front of us.
"Hm Hamilton." He replied quickly, Carmen pretended to be sad at his response to which he replied "Russel is cooler though." Making her laugh a little as jack remembered she was dating George.
The small boy looked up at me "Who is your favourite driver Evy?"
I thought about it, "Hm probably your mum when she was racing a couple years ago."
Susie smiled brightly as she admired Jack and Is conversation "What about current driver?" Carmen asked putting me in a tougher spot.
I shook my head "I can't choose, both of the Mercedes boys obviously imagine if I said someone from another time, dad would go into cardiac arrest."
"Very loyal." Susie remarked as we continued to watch the race, I felt different watching it knowing that I'd beaten half of them yesterday.
I suppose I kart more than any of them they actually drive formula one cars, "I had a feeling your favourite driver was from a different team." Carmen muttered into my ear as I rolled my eyes at her.
The rain began within seconds, not just a little drizzle the sky had opened up and water flooded down to the ground. "We need to pitt for the wet tyres." I told my dad who nodded and called the boys in.
Attempting a double pit stop was always an interesting one but today it was worth the risk, George flew by first and was away within seconds but Lewis was struggling to get down to the pit lane due to the crash of Yuki and Oscar right in front of it.
"Fucks sake." Carmen mumbled quietly, cautious of Jack listening in on the conversation as we watched the chaos unfold.
Cars were swerving left and right, it needed to be called off the weather conditions weren't helping anyone at all, Mercedes were the only team with wet tyres on which doesn't help out a lot if nobody else has them on.
"This isn't safe weather conditions what are they doing?" I asked Susie who simply shrugged before getting up to go and ask someone to call the race off.
All the paddocks were deafeningly quiet as we waited for the race to be stopped yet the signal never came, all the boys kept on racing. It took four more crashes for the race to be red flagged and all the drivers headed back to their garages.
"It's about time! That was ridiculous." George mumbled taking his helmet off and grabbing a coat.
"Absolutely ridiculous, I bet Horner was loving it, watching all that chaos unfold." My dad replied, the cameras quick to pick that up as they were filming for the new season of drive to survive.
