Mónica's POV
The moment I close the door, my parents rush to see me.
"Anything you want to tell us?", asks my mum.
"You saw the photos, right?"
"We did, and would have preferred to know this from you and not the internet".
"There is nothing to know".
For a second, I think about telling them the truth but...it will disappoint them. I know. And worry them. I don't want that.
"You running around with one of my favourite players doesn't seem like nothing, Moni", says my dad.
"He's just a friend".
"Since when do you have friends that are football players? I've been trying to get you to watch football my entire life".
"Mónica", my mum holds my hand to calm me down. "I get that you are famous now and will get attention from people like him. But be careful, ok? You know what footballers are like".
"He's a good kid".
"Gerard, you don't know him".
"I've seen interviews and they teach them well at La Masia".
Maybe my dad should date Pablo? He sounds like he adores him.
"I'll be careful, mum".
She nods. Trusting me more than she trusts my dad's love for my future boyfriend. Or the boyfriend himself.
"How did you meet?"
"He followed me on Instagram and sent me a message about one of the song covers I did".
"See? Great kid and has great taste", says my dad.
"And what did you do today, then?"
"What you saw in the photos. We wanted to have a drink together and just walk around the area talking but it was all cut short because of the paparazzi".
I try to stick to almost truths so it's easier to lie. I don't like having to be dishonest with my parents at all.
"He's a handsome boy, honey. I get the appeal. But again, be careful. There will be a lot of people taking interest in you. I worry".
"I know, mum. But dad is right, he's been good to me so far. He seems really nice".
My mum smiles at me. I've never talked to her about boys so I guess this is a bit weird for her. But not as weird as it is for me. I hate lying to my parents so much.
Gavi's POV
"So this girl isn't your girlfriend?", asks my sister.
"No, Saúl explained it to you already".
"I just don't get why you can't date whoever you want".
"I explained that too, Aurora".
Saúl has been talking to my family today, so they know everything that's going on. And no one seems to be very excited about this idea.
"It's nothing against the girl, but...", says my mum.
"I know it's strange but Pablo is rising a bit too fast. Everyone's got their eyes on him, analyzing his every move on and off the pitch. They'll try to distract him with talk about girls. It's always the same. So showing the world he's got a girlfriend will take pressure off him. And she's a nice girl, so he's not going to be involved in any drama because of her actions. I picked her specifically because of that. We just give people some photos of them every once in a while, and they are happy. They don't follow him and destroy his career".
"God! I thought my son just needed to be good at kicking a ball but there is all this drama around. I don't like this but I'll just remove myself from it. If you think this is the best option, I guess I'll have to trust you".
"Are you happy about this, Pablo?", asks my sister.
"I don't know. I just do what Saúl tells me to do".
"Pretending to date a pretty girl must be tough. Poor you".
"Whatever...".
But she's right. This idea of fake dating someone didn't sound like something I wanted to do. But the fact that it is Mónica who I have to fake with makes things easier. She's pretty, she's nice and a little snarky sometimes. There is no malice in her. And I know she won't try to take advantage of me. So yeah, it could be a lot worse.
