Gavi's POV
When I hear the doorbell, I wonder who it could be. I'm not expecting anyone so maybe a delivery of some sort. But then I hear the door open and I know it's my parents.
"Pablo?"
My dad's voice fills the house. And I move to the front door because, sadly, I can't hide.
"I'm here".
"Hello son, how are you? We haven't spoken much lately, have we?"
"No", I say, hugging him stiffly.
"Gotta fix that, don't you think?"
I nod because I want to fix this, of course. But I also want to defend Mónica. I hate being in the middle of this. I shouldn't have to choose between my parents and my girlfriend.
"How about you and your girlfriend come around for dinner tomorrow?"
"Do you really want that?"
"Well, I guess it's time we meet her. It...", he stops himself from saying more and I wonder what he was going to say. "Let's just meet and get to know each other. Your sister met her already and she likes her. I don't see why your mum and I wouldn't like her as well".
"She's perfect, dad. I swear".
He nods but doesn't seem fully convinced by my words. "Be there by 8?"
"We will".
"Can we talk about football now? I feel like we haven't spoken about it for so long".
I spend the next hour chatting with my dad about work and it feels as if we had gone back to the time before I signed the contract to date Mónica. I missed this, a lot. And I hope we can go back to this normal after the dinner.

Later that day, the doorbell rings again but this time I know who it is. That's why I run to the door. And when I open it, Mónica is there, holding a small overnight bag.
I don't even say hi before I kiss her. She responds to the kiss immediately and we somehow manage to get inside the house and close the door while kissing.
"Missed me that much?", she laughs, breathless like I am.
"I have good news".
She smiles before I even tell her what is making me so happy. She's perfect. "What happened?"
"My parents want to meet you".
"No way. Did your sister convince them?"
"Apparently".
She jumps in my arms, squealing and laughing.
"I'm so happy for you, my love. I know how much this means to you".
"They'll love you. They have to love you".
"I'll try my best to impress them", she laughs. She doesn't need to try with me.
Mónica's POV
"It'll be fine, honey. Don't be nervous".
"How can I not be?"
My mum is helping me get ready for dinner at Pablo's parents and I'm freaking out. What if they hate me? What if something goes wrong?
"It'll be fine. You'll see".
"I hope you're right".
I look at myself in the mirror again. I'm wearing a simple navy blue dress. My hair is up in a ponytail because I touch it obsessively when I'm nervous. And I just applied the tiniest bit of make-up. I want to look like I made an effort but still look like myself.
"Pablo is here!", I hear my dad say.
My mum and I walk to the door and there I see my boyfriend waiting for me. My very nervous boyfriend.
"Do I look ok?"
He laughs. "Do you even have to ask? You look perfect. Let's go, the car is waiting outside".
"Have fun!", says my mum, waving at us while we leave.
On the way to his parent's, Pablo and I barely talk. We are used to comfortable silence between us when we are watching a movie or cuddling. But this isn't comfortable.
"You ok?", I ask him.
"I'm terrified of this not going well".
"It will go well".
He finally turns to look at me.
"I know you'll do all it takes for it to go well. I'm not sure about my parents. They've never been like this. I don't get why they are acting this way. Even knowing how much they are hurting me".
I wish I could hug him right now and hold him close to me to comfort him but we are in a car, so I grab his hand instead so I can squeeze it and hope that somehow is enough for now.
"We are here".
