Gavi's POV

"Big day today", is Saúl's greeting to me first thing in the morning.

"I guess".

"It's your first big event together".

"But people have already seen us together. And, I mean, after Saturday...".

"After Saturday, you need this. To post a photo looking all happy, backstage at her show".

The last thing I want to think about is that. Posts about shows or whatever. Not after last night's disaster. I shouldn't even be here...

"We're bringing more security for you two, by the way. We don't want a repeat of what happened the other day".

"Yeah. I have to go to training. Can you drive me there?"

"Sure".

And the hours feel longer than usual because of how much I'm dreading going to this concert, but at 8 pm, I'm ready to wait for Mónica's parents.

They show up not much later and we drive to the venue of the show. We make some small talk but they can tell I'm not feeling really up for a lot of chatting.

"Everything alright, Pablo?", asks Mónica's mum, Patricia.

"Just worried about Mónica".

"Why?"

"She wasn't feeling great about the show and I hope everything goes well. And that it's over soon".

"That's so sweet that you worry about her. But Mónica has always been like that. She almost made herself sick at the academy before the galas and then...superstar! It'll be the same today".

I hope she's right.

Once at the venue, we find our seats and get ready for the show. I find most of it pretty boring but then Mónica shows up to perform her first song and I can't help but smile. She's so good. The crowd goes wild as well and when the song is over, I find myself cheering loudly with her parents.
I see her looking up, where she knows we are, and waving at us. That only makes the crowd look too, and when they spot me, their chants change to my name and I can see Mónica leaving the stage laughing. She did that on purpose.

Two performances later, it's time for Mónica again. But this time she isn't singing alone. She sings with Mario, the winner of the show. And the idiot who is still trying to get people to believe something happened between them two. I hate him.

I remember seeing them perform the song on the show and the choreography was made so it was as sensual as possible, of course. Even from far away, I can tell how uncomfortable Mónica is. But Mario is loving it. Loving it so much, that he tries to kiss her.

Wait, what? He's trying to kiss her?

There is a general gasp from the crowd and Mónica, thankfully, reacts quickly enough to avoid his kiss. She keeps singing but far away from him, forgetting the choreography.

By the time the song is over, my knuckles are white from how hard I'm gripping the chair.

"I'll be right back", I say, standing up.

"Pablo, don't do anything stupid", says Mónica's mum but I don't acknowledge her comment.

I run downstairs, to where the backstage is. Mónica gave us a pass, so I'm hoping it means I can get in.

"Don't touch me!"

Hearing her voice only makes me run faster.

"Come on, Moni. You want a man, not a kid".

"She said to not touch her. Are you deaf?"

"Kid, go back home. It's your bedtime already".

Mónica moves to my side, to try to hold me.

"Kid? Well, if I'm a kid then so is she. She's younger than me, you creep".

"And yet she got into my bed every night. And not just because she wanted a bedtime story".

"Stop lying! What are you getting from saying those lies?", yells Mónica.

"She was underage during the show. You might want to stop bragging about that, even if it didn't happen".

"Age of consent is 16", he laughs.

"Which doesn't make you less of a creep for trying to sleep with a 17-year-old. Stay away from her, ok?"

"Or what?"

"Don't make me show you".

Mónica finally gets to take me away from the rest of the people who are backstage.

"Why did you do that?"

"Because he tried to force himself on you in front of everyone. That's not fucking ok, Mónica. I'm not letting anyone do that to you".

"But what if you get in trouble? Especially after last night's match".

"I don't care".

She just keeps on staring at me, making me a little uneasy.

"What are you thinking?"

"Let's go home. You can stay at my parents' today if you want to. It's a long drive to your place".

"Will they be ok with that?"

"Yeah".
