Beverly's POV

With the sky covered in an early morning blanket of stars, I drive down the lonely roads, tears still streaming down my face. I rented the car before I left the city, needing a break from Bucky and the entire situation. I grip the steering wheel tightly, my knuckles white, trying to get to the destination fast. Originally, I was just going to stay with Bucky and Sam but keep my distance. But, I changed my mind when I woke up an hour after crying myself to sleep, seeing Bucky still facing the wall, with so much space between us in the bed. It physically hurt when I listened to the words he said in my head, an action that hasn't stopped since I heard them from him. So, I sneaked out of bed, grabbed all of my things, which were my phone and my weapons, and slinked out of the hotel. Before I rented the car, I went to a store and bought a small bag that I stuffed with clothes that I bought from the closest clothing store.

Now, I'm driving down the empty roads, early in the morning, having to blink multiple times a second to get rid of my blurry vision. Tears are streaming down my cheeks, and permanently stuck in my tear ducks, uncontrollably happening. Eventually, the concrete roads become dirt and grass, and the landscapes become enclosed trees, trapping me in. I follow the gravel road, seeing the yellow lights in front of me peeking through the trees. The lights become brighter the closer I get, illuminating the cabin. I park the car, grab my bag, and walk over to the porch of the cabin. Knocking on the door, it takes a while to answer, but when it does, I let out a deep sigh.

"Beverly?" Pepper answers the door. "What are you doing here? It's 4 in the morning." Her voice is groggy, clearly still filled with sleep.

"I know, I'm sorry. But, I need a place to stay. I just left and didn't know where I was going, I just drove and-"

"Hey, it's okay," She pulls me into a hug. "You can stay here, don't worry."

The day has been very chill, and Pepper made sure that I was okay. I told her about the argument, and what Bucky said. She looked shocked, but not as much as I was. We didn't talk about it after, concentrating on taking care of Morgan. She was my main priority today and was an amazing distraction. We stood by the lake, playing in her tent. She was the princess and I was the dragon. Then, we played with my powers, making large ripples in the lake. She got tired easily, and I was allowed to take her to bed. She slept for a few hours, as I helped clean the cabin with Pepper.

All of that has led to the late evening, where I am sitting with Morgan on the couch, reading her a book, and waiting for Pepper to sit with us to watch a movie. She does come over, a bowl of popcorn in her hands, placing it on the coffee table in front of us. Morgan gets distracted by the popcorn, not listening to me reading the book anymore. She reaches over my lap, lying on my legs to grab the bowl of popcorn. When she gets to it, she stuffs her face, crumbs going all over my lap.
