Beverly's POV

Holding onto the back of his tactical gear, Sam flies Bucky through the air and towards the moving van. I trail behind them both, using my powers to lift myself off the ground. I follow Sam's movements, him being fully in control. We haven't argued about who is in charge, we all just secretly agree that it will be Sam. He does have the most knowledge, after all. But, sometimes, I can see Bucky wanting to take over, his inner Sargent seeping through.

Then, when the van comes into view, Sam carefully drops Bucky on the back. He grips the bar of the door,  pulling the other one open. When he walks inside, Sam and I keep flying behind it, seeing another van pull up behind it. We watch cautiously, waiting for Bucky to speak to us through the comms.

"Bucky, talk to us, what's going on?" Sam presses the earpiece.

"I found the hostage." Bucky answers.

Sam goes to ask him another question, but, Bucky's body comes flying out of the doors. He hits the windshield, the glass shattering. We fly over to him, but a small group of masked men step out of a door on the ceiling of the other van, pulling Bucky onto the roof. They fist-fight each other, Bucky's face tensing with concentration.

Sam and I make it to the van, landing beside Bucky. We join the fight, me using my powers and fists. Who I'm assuming is the hostage Bucky found, with a mask on her face, jumps from the back of the first van and onto the other, joining the fight. I head straight for her when she aims for Bucky, wanting to knock her away from him. We fight as Bucky and Sam fight the other men, getting them off the van. But, there are too many. And they are really strong.

With my arm around the girl's throat, another soldier grabs my hair, pulling me away from her. I didn't have her in my grip long enough for it to be tight, so I have to let go of her. He pulls me to the edge of the van, pushing my back onto the roof. He hangs my head over the edge, my neck falling backwards with how hard he is pushing me. I fight him as he tries to knock me off the van, kicking and screaming.

Hearing my screams, Sam, who kicks his final soldier away, runs over to me, punching the man off of me. He grabs my bulletproof vest before I fall off the van, picking me up off the roof. I let out a sigh of relief, holding my hand to my chest.

"Thanks," I breathe out.

"No problem, tiny." He smiles.

But, before we can continue fighting, Sam is thrown off the van, having to use his wings to fly away. He doesn't hit the ground and flies around to face the van. Before coming back down, he uses Redwing to try and fight some of the men off, but the hostage grabs it in her hands, slamming it on her knee and breaking it.

"I've always wanted to do that," Bucky whispers.

Sam stays in the air, using his guns to shoot at the men as Bucky and I fight them with our hands. But, Bucky quickly gets overpowered and kicked off the end of the van. I try to run over and help him, but I'm being held down by three men. I can hear the scrapping of metal as Bucky does whatever he needs to keep on the side of the van. One of the men climbs down the ladder, trying to get to Bucky. I shift in the hold of the other men holding me down, kicking them in the ankles. But, an aggravating voice stops all of our actions.

"Hello, I'm Captain America."

I roll my eyes, not even having to turn around to see the smug smirk that is defiantly on John's face. He uses the shield to get one of the men off of me, the one holding my arm. I punch the other one in the face and kick the one behind me, holding my legs together. John, and another man that joins him fight the last two men off the van. Sam flies down to Bucky, grabs him and they roll onto the grass on the side of the road. I fight with my own mind until I decide to leave John and the stranger to fight the remaining soldiers. I fly down next to them, seeing the moving van with the two men fighting the last soldier.

Bucky and Sam tumbled through the grass, ending in Sam lying on top of Bucky, both of them groaning. I stiffen my laugh, hiding my smile behind the back of my hand. Bucky pushes Sam off of him and sits upright. They stand up silently, trying to pretend that, that didn't happen. But, they both know that they can't get away from it. Sam just saved Bucky.

Sam makes a move to walk down the empty road, following the tire tracks of where the vans would have ended up. Bucky and I follow behind him, clicking all our tense muscles and bones. We don't talk for a while, trying to think of our next moves.

"So," I speak up. "What do we do now?"

"Honestly," Sam sighs. "I have no idea."

It didn't feel long, but we have been walking for about 30 minutes. Bucky gets closer to me, clearly shaken up from both of us almost being knocked off the van. But, a screeching noise behind us comes screaming into my ears, making me tense and groan. We all look over to the side, seeing a truck, with open design, showing the two members inside. John Walker and his sidekick.

"Get in," John instructs when the car stops.

We all continue walking, ignoring John. He tells the driver to follow us, slowly trailing behind us. I roll my eyes, once again, finding John unbearable. But, the car pulls up in front of us, blocking our way. We all stop, our feet almost touching the tires of the truck. John opens the back gate, silently telling us to get inside. I groan as I grab the bar, pulling myself to get on. Bucky and Sam hesitantly do the same. I sit in between the two men, opposite John and the other man.

"Look what happened to you," John says. "I did warn you what would happen if you got in my way."

"Threatened." Bucky mumbles.

"Besides, we got all those men off the van. We do work well as a team." John ignores the comment.

"Team?" I speak up. "Whose your sidekick?"

"Battlestar, but you can call me Lemar Hoskins." He reaches out his hand.

"Hi," I shake it.

"Battlestar?" Bucky judges.

"Anyway, we should talk about what to do next. We need to have a plan on how we are going to beat the Flag Smashers." John interrupts. "It's clear that you guys are going to keep getting in our way, so we should just work together. There is no need to get in each other's way."

"No, no." Bucky has had enough. "Stop the car!"

The driver halts his movements, the tires screeching on the concrete. Bucky opens the gate, stepping out of the truck. He grabs my hands, helping me get off the truck. Sam follows behind, walking beside us as we walk away from the truck. John scoffs as he leans over to the driver, instructing him to just keep driving. They speed off beside us, leaving us in the dust.
