He was a scoundrel. Living at least that's what Barty told him that night when he informed his best friends of his engagement.

It had been too long since just the three of them had spent a quiet night in the dorm. But it had also been a long time since he had hung out with Dorcas, or Pandora. And so, what was supposed to be a night of the Slytherin trio filling each other in on the events of the week morphed into a small gathering in the  boys' dorm.

"Oh do tell Black will it be roses at the wedding?" Barty asked him from where he was sat on the floor.

"Which one?" Evan asked quickly adding to the joke.

"I still don't understand." Dorcas said in confusion

"Wasn't Parkinson supposed to ask for her hand?" She looked up at Regulus for an answer. Barty's hands were splayed out in front of her as she coated the nails with an almost black green color.

"She was supposed to get all of that sorted, and well, I couldn't very ask her over tea." Regulus explained, his head draped over the side of the bed watching the group on the floor.

"I thought your parents wanted us to get married." Pandora added in.

"They think with my cousin marrying your brother the relation would be too close." Regulus said dully as he sat up,

"Aren't your parents cousins?"

"Yes." Regulus said quickly not wanting to approach the subject too closely

"But your cousins, husbands, sister is too close in relation?" Regulus shrugged. How was he supposed to know what went on in his parents' bloody minds?

"I'm sorry what," Dorcas said frozen staring at Regulus. He looked back at her for a moment confused. She was a muggleborn. Rare in Slytherin, especially nowadays.

"Oh, you didn't know?" Pandora asked sympathetically. " these things are quite common in the Wizarding world."

"You're serious?" She asked with a slight laugh.

In most pureblood families yes,  not all of us are as dramatic as the hacks though.

"Well, how do you think they keep the bloodline Pure?" Regulus asked sarcastically. This was a part of pureblood society that was not often talked about.

"I just thought that meant marrying other wizards." The group stared at her blankly.

"They really do need to educate the muggleborns better." Evan said

"If two mugleborns have a kid together that's a half-blood." Barty informed her.

"Well, I know that, but what if that kid has a kid?" She asked.

"Still a half-blood." Barty told her.

"And that kids kid?" Dorcas questioned further.

"Halfblood." Regulus supplied.

"And their kids?"

"They're considered half-bloods for like five generations I think." Evan offered in simple explanation.

"Or until people aren't alive to remember anymore." Barty said. "That's what the Umbridge family tried." Barty said rolling his eyes.

"It's unfair you don't get taught this sort of thing." Pandora said.

"God, we need a class on Wizarding gossip," Dorcas said pinching the bridge of her nose. "I can't keep up with you lot."

"On a much less disgusting note" Pandora broke the uncomfortable atmosphere. "You're all coming to my wedding, right?" The mood was instantly lifted.
