Dear james,

Th-thunk

It was never enough to greet him this way in a letter. It seemed too formal. Call it being brought up in high society, but it hurt to address him informally. Hell, it went against instincts, not to call Monty Lord Potter.

Th-thunk.

So dear james was good enough he decided.

Th-thunk

"Will you knock that off." Regulus asked, turning from the small desk. Barty met his eyes. And the slowly he released the ball again. It hit the wall and bounced back to him.

"I'm going to kill your boyfriend." Regulus deadpanned to his blonde haired best friend

"He is not my boyfriend." Evan claimed, looking up from the book he was reading, draped against the sofa of the drawing room.  Barty blew Evan a kiss, and the other boy wrinkled his nose in appeared disgust.

"Same difference." Regulus shrugged. Evan turned to the boy sitting on the floor, seeming to way his losses.

"Have at it." Evan said, Regulus sighed, turning back to his letter.

Dear James.

I hope this letter finds you well. I send hope that the presence of my brother hasnt been too much of a burden. (He really is quite annoying.) I will try to visit as soon as possible. I wish I could be there now. Alas, being Lord Black, has many duties.

He had been to about three meetings at the ministry to officially transfer the title. And then twice as long to convince the goblins to sign the family vaults into his name. And then there were the social engagements. He had only hosted a few himself. But the dinners were endless.

be glad you aren't in the sacred twenty-eight.

"Why are you writing about our family in your sex letter." Barty interrupted. He had moved from his seated position and was bow standing behind Regulus skimming through his writing.

"I thought you were straying from the inbreeding narrative." Evan said with a disapproving frown. He didn't want to marry one of his cousins either.

"It's not a sex letter." Regulus hissed, hurrying to hide the paper from wandering eyes..

"Then why are you hiding it?" Barty asked with a raised eyebrow.

"It's private." Regulus said, pushing the parchment into a drawer.

"So it is a sex letter." Evan laughed. "Regulus, you dog."No. that would be Sirius, he thought wryly.

"My being aches at even the thought of your touch." Barty said, jumping onto the sofa of the small drawing room. He pit his hand to his forehead and feigned swooning.

"It's been too long since our escapades of spring," Evand continued the mockery in the same tone, standing up to catch Barty who. "I fear I'll need you several times a week wh-"

"Enough." A cold, shrill voice spoke from the doorway. "Regulus. Control your company." She said harshly.

His mother had been acting odd. She no longer pushed him to join the dark lord. He had learned from Narcissa that his father had payed with his life to keep Regulus out of the ranks.tgat fact would confuse Regulus for the rest of his days.

He was the head of the house bow. And though his mother could guide him. She no longer controlled him. Well once he turned seventeen she couldn't. That's when he officially got the inheritance. So maybe it was the looming fear of her own son disowned her, or maybe losing her husband. But Walburga was no longer the screaming bitch of his youth. She was a quiet bitch now. Lurking in the shadows coming out for company, and meals.

Of course there were rooms Regulus never dared set foot in. His gathers office. The dining room. And the room opposite his that was left the exact same as it had been on that December night which seemed to be and eternity ago.

"Can't we do anything." Barty complained. He was laying flat on the floor, on hand throwing the ball and catching it. Regulus leaned opened the window awaiting the families owl he hadn't completed the letter but after the first few weeks james hid told him that even just a word the he was still alive was enough. So he scrawled a quick signature and put it into and envelope, sealing it with the black family crest. He drew his finger slowly over the delicate wax he watched the bird fly over the roof tops.

"Come onnn," Barty moaned. " I'm so bored."

"Maybe you should, I don't know. Go home." Regulus suggested. Barty had basically lived at his house the entire holiday.

"Can't." Barty said. "Dads pissed. He said toying with the small hop in his ear. He had been upping the antics trying to get a rise out of his father. Apparently, it worked.

"Then go to his house then I don't care just get out of my bloody house." Regulus said exasperated.

" can't.c  Evan supplied " Mum caught him with weed," he said patting his pockets. " banned him from the house." That was a very Barty thing to do. Evan found what he was looking for he produced a box from one of his pockets. And held it up for The other boys approval.

"Not in here. Mother would be furious." Regulus said decisively

And so they went to the attic. It had been strange the first time Barty had introduced him to the muggle substance. It was a but different than a muggle cigarette. And he wasn't good fond of the taste but regardless he was slumped over against the wall of the attic.

Bohemian rhapsody hit different when you were stone out of your mind. The room was hazy and nothing really had a defined edge. And damn, he could really go for some chips.

He looked at his friends who were in a similar situation, using eachother for support instead. His whole body felt loose. He could help but simile when he look at them.

"Hey, we should go out." They definable shouldn't.

"Where?" Evan asked.

"I dotn know just out, grab dinner or something." Regulus shrugged. Anything sounded good right then

"That sounds great." Barty agreed. It was not a great idea. In the back of his mind Regulus could see the headlines. Young Black family heir caught, well what ever they were doing it wouldn't be good.

"I saw a muggle shop a couple blocks away." Evan suggested.

"Reccon we can aparate?" Barty asked.

"Not legally." Regulus said raising an eyebrow. It's not like he hadn't done it. The ministry guide lines were a joke really. Imagine trying to track who's asking magic in a magic household.

"No," Barty said waving a hand." Get your boyfriend to take us." He said like Regulus was stupid for not realizing.

Just then a tapping came from the small circular window. His owl was perched on the small ledge he quickly made his was across the room and popped open the window. The bird flew in and nestled on a chair that was probably a. Few hundred years old. He hadn't expected such a quick response.

Hello, Regulus,

the boys would like to invite you to come see a concert with us tomorrow night. They are preoccupied at the moment. James wants you to know that there are no ulterior motives. And that he is certainly not just trying to shag you. ( Sirius called him a brother fucker.) Bring anyone you'd like.
- RJL

Regulus looked around quickly for something to write back with searching in nearby  boxes. Barty hit him in the head with a short broken pencil. Fuck formalities. He decide. Flipping over the parchment.

Be there in 5.
