April 3-St. Charles, Missouri

You got out of your car and walked over to the mailbox and took out a few envelopes. Bills, bills, and more bills. Typical.

"Morning!" Peter said as he came over to you.

He had on a pair of shorts and was lacking a shirt. A layer of sweat caused his skin to shine. He looked really good. He took his headphones out and paused whatever song was playing. You didn't even realize that you were staring until he pointed it out.

"Take a picture. It'll last longer."

"Um, how was your run?" You laughed as you tried to change the subject.

"Good. I almost got lost a few times, though."

"There's an app for that."

"Yeah. I'm finding out that there's an app for everything."

"Anything specific you want for breakfast?"

"I'll take whatever you make."

"This is why we're friends. You make things so easy."

When you all were done eating, Peter helped you wash the dishes while Jason was reading.

"You think I should get a haircut?"

"No!"

"No?"

"I like it how it is."

"Fluffy?"

"Yeah. It's the style now."

"If you say so."

"I'm gonna go lay down. I'll leave you kids alone."

"You need help?"

"I'm okay. Have fun. But not too much fun."

"What's he talking about?" Peter asked you.

"He's been trying to set me up with you."

"I thought you were married?"

"Why'd you think that?"

"I don't know. I just assumed, I guess."

"I'm not. Thomas, Riley's dad, left when she was 3."

"Does she remember him?"

"No, but, he's been contacting me on social media lately trying to meet up."

"What are you gonna do?"

"I don't know."

"Can I give you some advice?"

"Please."

"Even though my dad was a complete a-hole, I don't regret meeting him."

"Really?"

"Yeah. I had so many questions about him, and they all got answered. So, even if he's still a jerk, I'm sure that Riley will want to at least meet him."

"Thanks, Peter."

"No problem."

"What about you? You got a girlfriend?"

"I did."

"Sorry. I didn't mean to reopen old wounds."

"It's okay. It's a long story anyway."

"That's okay. You don't have to talk about it. So, tell me about space."

The two of you talked for a while about his life and yours. Even after all these years, you were still comfortable with each other.
