July 10-St. Charles, Missouri

You never did like funerals. And not for the reason that everybody else disliked them. It was because everyone gave the same repetitive words. 'I'm sorry for your loss.' 'Everything happens for a reason.' 'It'll get better.' Although they mean well, it gets kind of old.

You entertained guests in the living room as they all talked about Jason. You didn't know most of these people, but they cared about him.

"Do you know where Peter is?" Riley asked you. "People keep asking me."

"I'll go find him."

You got off the couch and went to go look for your boyfriend. You found him in your bedroom sitting on the floor against the bed.

"Hey."

"Hi."

You sat down next to him and rested your head on his shoulder.

"You okay?"

"I think so."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

"Good."

"You wanna know something kinda stupid?"

"What?"

"I'm getting kinda sick of this house."

"Peter."

"I know, I know. You told me so."

"You wanna move?"

"I think so. I didn't get what you were talking about earlier. But now that he's gone, this place feels giant."

"It really does."

"I love this house, but I don't wanna be reminded of him dying everyday day."

"I get it."

"What do you say we do a little house hunting this weekend?"

"I say yes."

"There you are." Riley said as she walked into the room. She gestured for you to scoot over so that she could sit between you. You moved and let her sit down. "I've been looking for you."

"What do you think about getting outta this house?" He asked her.

"Really?"

"Really."

"I think that would be good."

"Me too."

"I guess it's official then. We're moving."

"You know, my family has looked very different over the last 40 years. But this version is probably my favorite."

You all smiled and hugged each other.

"I love you guys."

After everyone had left, you cleaned up the house and tried to relax a bit. You sat next to Peter in bed and scrolled through houses on your computer.

"I like that one."

"It's got a pool."

"And a dog door."

"Peter, we can get a dog door anywhere."

"But this one comes with the house."

"True."

You sat in silence for a few minutes while you stared at the screen. He couldn't keep his eyes off of you. More than usual that is.

"What?"

"Nothing."

"What is it, Peter?"

"It's dumb."

"Tell me."

"Before Grandpa died, he gave me this ring. It was my grandma's. He said that he wanted me to have it for when the time was right."

"And?"

"I keep thinking about it. I know it's still early. I don't wanna send you running for the hills or anything."

"Do you wanna ask?"

"I think I do."

"I would say yes. If you asked me, I would say yes."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

He smiled and pulled the box out of his nightstand.

"Roxanne,-"

"Yes!"

"I didn't even ask yet!"

"Hurry!"

"Will you marry me?"

"Yes!"

You kissed him and held him tightly. He put the ring on your finger and held your hands.

"My God, I love you."

"I love you so much, Peter."

He kissed you again and smiled against your lips.

"I've been waiting 40 years for this."

"Well, the wait is over."
